A stunningly luxurious winter retreat in Salzburg

This was an incredible stay in a memorable and luxurious hotel. The staff, from the receptionist to the bar staff, restaurant servers and the chefs, were amazing; they were friendly, attentive and really knowledgeable about their work. Staying in a Superior Castle Room provided a refined and classic environment that felt very relaxing. The Glass Garden restaurant was a particular highlight. The central glass sculpture by Dale Chihuly creates a beautiful atmosphere and the dining experience was incredible. It was certainly one of the most memorable meals we have ever had with course after course of exquisite tastes. Breakfast was also delightful, with staff who really added to our experience. The hilltop location gave us amazing views and the walk down into the streets was charming in the January snow. The spa was another highlight, and we thoroughly enjoyed the saunas and fitness room during our winter visit.

Amazing accomodations & New Years (Silvester) destination!

Beautiful hotel with easy access to old Salzburg and a wonderful upper Ridgeline walk to the fortress. The staff were amazing and highly accommodating. Their Silvester Gala (New Years) was insanely impressive with amazing views of the firework shows all around us.

A relaxing and luxurious stay.

The hotel was one of the nicest I have stayed at, featuring beautiful rooms, comfortable beds, an amazing location, terrific food, and warm and caring staff. We particularly enjoyed our time in the pool, walking through the park near the hotel to the elevator which takes you down to the old town, and relaxing in our rooms.

A wonderful place to stay at

a beautiful castle with exceptional service, very good breakfast and a nice small spa. We’ve been here before and it’s always lovely to stay at Hotel Schloss Mönchstein.

The only small issue we had was that the rooms were very warm in Winter and there was almost no airflow - the air felt stale.

The hotel sits in an exclusive yet very convenient location with easy access to most spots. My room not only offered fantastic views of the city but also featured a small yard where we could sit outside and enjoyed the nature.

Location and Hotel amenities are amazing

Breakfast was amazing however being from America our experiences and expectations are far less formal. Our servers where amazing and made us feel right at home. The location was perfect once we got the lay of the land. We missed the lift from Old Town and had to walk up to the Hotel and it wasn’t so bad. Slow and steady we made it just fine. The hotel staff on our second day and at check out were amazing. Both offered suggestions on what to do for that particular day, were very pleasant and the conversation seemed to flow.

I was a little stressed getting to the hotel as the road up was very narrow. All I could hope for was that the road was one way - but it was not. Fortunately the road is not travelled much so we were able to descend without much traffic. When we reached the hotel (again being a little stressed) we were met with a very nice hostess however a little awkward…. I felt rushed to grab my free drink and fill out my registration on the iPad provided. I didn’t want a drink I just wanted to register and get to my room to relax on my own time. A drink in my room would have been more welcome (for example a small bottle of wine…). At any rate we made it to our room with a guided tour and time to unpack. Our hostess also gave us information on how to get to the lift to Old Town however more detailed information on how to get to the lift would have been helpful. My husband is typically really good with instructions and we both found ourselves wondering where to go next based on the information given. In the end we decided to take the high road which once again worked out well for us! :-). One last item… It would have been nice if they would have replenished our in room coffee and creamer. Overall our stay was pleasant.

Beautiful hotel, with flaws

this is a beautiful building,very well decorated in all the common areas, lobby, bar restaurant, breakfast room, lovely gardens, and the nicest, most attentive staff one can expect. Location wise, it depends on the purpose of your stay. If you want a quiet beautiful retreat, it’s perfect. If your intention is visiting and getting to know Salzburg, I wouldn’t recommend it

In a hotel, no matter how spectacular everything else is, your room is obviously the most important part of your stay, and ours, #25, left a lot to be desired. to begin with, we were told we were upgraded, so I shudder to think what our reserved room might have been like. #25 was really small, the bed took up most of the room. There was not even a small chair, let alone a desk. there was a small settee in a corner but that was the only place we could put a bag and a carry on bag. The other bag had to go inside the closet taking up most of it. So the bed was the only place we could sit on. I found that quite unacceptable in a hotel of this type. The bathroom in white marble was beautiful, with a bathtub under the windows overlooking the river and part of the city, a separate shower, and two separate lavatories, BUT, the connecting door to the bedroom was sheer glass, and the window shades weren’t of black out material, so at 5:30am there was enough light in the bedroom to wake us.
