Found this property on Vrbo when we were planning our trip to Big Bend. Pictures don't do it justice. Very peaceful, quiet, and the views are absolutely stunning. The house itself was awesome, very well designed and very clean. My wife and son of 2.5 years accompanied me on the trip. One of the best parts of this, and very important to me, was the communication by the owners via phone and text before, during, and after our stay. If you are planning on driving to the Big Bend area this place is a must!

We had an incredible Spring Break at this property with our two kids! It was the perfect place to disconnect, relax, and enjoy nature. The home was comfortable and well-equipped, making our stay easy and enjoyable. One of the highlights was exploring the mountain located on the property. Great hiking opportunities nearby in Big Bend National Park and mountain biking in Big Bend Ranch State Park. The property itself was beautiful and provided plenty of space for us to unwind. Whether we were taking in the scenery, spending quality time together, or just enjoying the peaceful atmosphere, it was exactly what we needed.Ross was fantastic to communicate with—quick to respond, helpful, and made sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a relaxing getaway with access to great outdoor adventures.

Loved this property. It is rather remote. As others said, you'll need a 4 wheel or all wheel drive vehicle. Everything about the house is perfect and the bed we used was very comfortable. We unfortunately experienced weather (freezing) seldom seen in this area and were without water for a couple days. Ross and Christin were very attentive and kept in touch regarding this situation, which in our travels in the area seemed to happen to many households. I would not hesitate to stay at this location again! Wish it had been warmer so that we could have stayed out longer at night to look at the stars. Absolutely the clearest we've seen!

Outstanding place to stay in Big Bend area. Excellent remote location to really unplug and unwind in the scenic high desert mountains of west Texas.

It is everything I read in previous reviews and more. Ross was the most amazing host. We saw deer, chipmunks, jackrabbits and a coyote at the property. We climbed the local mountain out back every morning and drank in the sunset every evening. High-clearance vehicle is a must to get up the trail to the cabin but easily manageable in our front-wheel drive SUV. I don't want to spoil any more. If you are going to spend some time in and around Big Bend and don't want to slum it out in Terlingua surrounded by tourist traps, then you have found your destination. We can't wait to head back. (And somehow the drive from Dallas wasn't bad at all -- even with my in-laws and a 5 and 7 year old!)

Looking for a place to get away? This is it! Off the beaten path but close enough for day trips to Big Bend. We used this as our home base while we hiked and visited several spots in Big Bend National Park. The home is secluded and well maintained with lots of little details and character. A peaceful place for couples or families with older children to get away and enjoy the beauty of the area. The owners are great people!

It is exactly as advertised. Quiet and remote. Nicely furnished and equipped with all I needed. My host was on time to guide me up to the house and explain everything about off grid living.
I was worried about accessing the house in my car and almost rented an SUV. My car is an E series Mercedes which is fairly low to the ground, but I was able to navigate up and down the road for 4 days, only scraping the bottom once. Not an issue, just take your time and pick your route around the high/low spots.
Be sure to set an alarm at moon set if the moon is fairly full. It was worth getting up at 4 AM every morning just to sit with a coffee and look at the sky, amazing. I'm already planning on coming back again next year.

Close proximity to Big Bend National Park. House is charming and uniquely designed with wonderful views. Host was very easy to communicate with and checked in to ensure we were doing well during our stay. Amazing views of the night sky.

My husband and I enjoyed a long weekend at Boca de la Roca. It was everything we wanted it to be and more! Ross is an excellent host and has definitely created an amazing property. We enjoyed some time in Big Bend National Park but found ourselves ready to be back up at the house to enjoy all of the views. The stargazing is phenomenal - highly recommend this property!

We had a great stay at Boca de la Roca. The house is located at the top of the hill with a 360 degrees of amazing views and it is a short drive to the Big Band national park. Being there feels like you are transported into another, tranquil, world.
Each of the well-appointed bedrooms has its own bathroom and the kitchen/leaving area is equipped with everything we needed. Maybe, having a toaster would be nice, but maybe it is intentionally not there as the house is solar powered.
We would definitively stay here again if in the area.

If you’re looking for a quiet location with amazing views look no further. The house is beautiful and has all the necessities covered. We spent Christmas with our teenagers and had an amazing time. If you don’t have a vehicle that is able to maneuver through primitive roads, you may want to reconsider. We visited Big Bend National park and Fort Davis mountains during our visit.

If you're looking for adventure, tranquility, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, easy access to Big Bend Parks, and just a peaceful place to rest after a full day of activities, then Boca de la Roca is the place for you! Communication with Ross and Christin was excellent. Finding the meeting point was easy thanks to their directions despite having no cell service. Following Christin up the rocky mountainous road was as other reviewers describe, but my front-wheel drive rented Lexus RX350 made it up and down for 5 days without issue.
As for the property, it's super clean, well appointed, nicely decorated, and exactly as described. The kitchen, dining, and sitting room is in the middle of the property. The 2 bedrooms with en suite baths are at each end with individual entrances. We enjoyed the separation and the space of the property. Additionally, the deck was lovely for nightly star gazing and relaxing. We lucked out with a massive lighting storm one night that was incredible.
Be warned, if you are used to living in the city or even the suburbs like me, it may take you a night to adjust to silence. No traffic, sirens, or loud noises. Nothing! I had to turn on white noise to get to sleep the first night.
The house is about 30 mins from Big Bend and a few restaurants and markets. We got groceries in Alpine, and enjoyed evenings at home except for one night at the Long Draw Pizza, which was excellent. I would highly recommend this property as your home base in Big Bend.

We were met by Christin, one of the owners and followed her to the cabin. Would be hard to find on your own the first time but easy to return to once you have been there. Everything was exactly as described. Ross had called beforehand to go over everything and Christin took us through the property again when we arrived. Be prepared to conserve water and utilities as it is off the grid and rainwater supplied. If we hadn’t chosen this area in mid-June when temps were above 100 during the day I am sure we would have enjoyed it more. We cooked dinner and the gas stove worked well. Nicely supplied with all the kitchen tools and dishes you could need. We would rent again but next time in early Spting or Fall when not so hot. I highly recommend if you want something totally different but nice.

The craftsmanship of this house is amazing. Everything fit so well. Decorated like a pro. Away from the hustle and bustle of big city, this "in the mountain" get away was perfect for a GWA (girls’ weekend away). Being city girls, we were able to navigate easily with solar power and rainwater which all added to the ambiance of the property.
The owners were so attentive and welcomed every question and call. Very friendly.
Looking forward to bringing my family back.

This property is wonderful if your looking for peace and quiet seclusion with beautiful views of the Big Bend area mountains. It’s out of the way a little but so worth the trip. It seemed like we had the sky and mountain to ourselves. We will definitely stay here again and hopefully again.

We stayed 3 nights with our teens, cooked all meals there, and enjoyed the incredible views and star gazing each night. Clean, comfortable beds, and everything you need to get away from it all. Went hiking/touring at Big Bend National Park, Terlingua Ghost Town, and Fort Davis State Park. So glad we brought our telescope and a 4WD SUV. Only wish is that we had given ourselves more time. This home is definitely a labor of love for Ross and his family. We will definitely come back!

The cabin was very clean with lovely decor and excellent views! The stars at night are amazing!! Not to far away from
Big Bend National Park. No issues with the cabin being off the grid. Communication was very easy with quick responses. A vehicle with AWD or 4-wheel drive is needed as stated, and totally worth it. You will not regret staying here.

My husband and I have traveled extensively and this is hands down the most immaculate, majestic property we've had the pleasure of enjoying. It's proximity to Big Bend was perfect and the quiet joy of nature all around us at night was blissful. The view of the expansive terrain during the day and the bright stars at night were amazing. We are anxious to come back again soon!

Absolutely amazing. The house itself is obviously a work of love by the owner, with lots of small touches that make it feel super special. Bedrooms and bathrooms in excellent shape. Common area, with kitchen and small seating area, is perfect for quiet nights and mornings. And that’s to say nothing of the property itself, which is unreal. The views, the land, the moon, the stars: beautiful.
One note; listen to Ross about the road and your car! My mom SUV (gmc Acadia) made it up the gravel road to the cabin just fine but you will definitely need a high clearance vehicle.

We, my husband, 2 boys (ages 9 & 7), and myself, loved our stay. Very unique experience. House was in excellent condition. Stars were amazing. Kids loved exploring the property. We loved the peace and quiet and beautiful views, especially sunrise and sunset. Hope to return in the future!

Such a beautiful home in such a beautiful remote setting. Definitely recommend a 4x4 to get there and long pants to hike up to the mesa. Ross was super responsive and took the time to show us to the property and how to get the most out of our stay.

Boca de la Roca is a beautifully designed, and thoughtfully executed remote cabin. It was exactly as described: modern design, high end finishes, yet off the grid where your SUV (or similar high-clearance vehicle) is required. It's close to Big Bend and had amazing views for miles. Last, Ross, the host, was great.
The one unexpected characteristic that made our stay different than expected was that the bedrooms aren't connected to the main area by a hallway. You have to take a few steps outside to go back into the kitchen area. This gave our little one a bit of fear, sleeping alone. Maybe we missed this detail before booking.
In the end, it worked for us, and provided a great oasis from hiking in the park. 5 stars, would do again.

If you are looking for an off the grid location near Big Bend, this place is for you! The house is remote, with beautiful views in every direction. We loved the indoor / outdoor feel of the house with the deck connecting all the rooms. It was the perfect place to eat, drink and let the kids run around. Super unique and special place!

Ross has done an amazing job with this house. Truly memorable stay. He was an excellent host and even sent me a text to check in half-way through our stay.
The views are incredible both day and night. However, the night sky is like nothing I can recall seeing for a very long time. Words nor photos do it justice. It has to be seen in person. Very peaceful and relaxing. The drive to up the mountain is a bit scary the first time up, but we were pros by the end of the trip. You need an SUV or something with good clearance to drive up.
If you are looking for something that is super close to shopping or close to really anything, this is not for you. This stay is for peace and quiet with amazing views near nothing. It delivers that 100%. We stayed three nights and wished we could have stayed at least one more night.
We went to big bend national for two days and then went into Marfa for a day and stayed for the Marfa lights. It was about an hour and a half from the house to get to Marfa and the park entrance was about forty-five minutes or so.
We travel frequently staying in dozens of homes with our 14 and 16 year old boys and they thought it was one of the coolest homes we've stayed in. We would do the trip again just as we planned it. We loved everything about it.

Amazing.
The property. The house. Everything about this was beautiful! The stars at night are unlike any sky I’ve ever seen before! It is utterly breathtaking.
Seriously such a phenomenal mini trip that we enjoyed and was much needed!
The house is designed perfectly to capture both the amazing sunsets AND sunrises!
I truly hope we can return to enjoy this spot again!!

The Premier Big Bend Property
The Premier Big Bend Property
As someone who has stayed at multiple West Texas vacation rentals over the years, I can say with confidence you will not find a better view or property owner that took the time and attention to detail to create such a wonderful space.
While there is a neighbor to the East of the property within eyesight, it did not detract from the stay or vibe that most people seek to gain from the area.
Beds were comfortable, amenities of the property were excellent… my only suggestion would be more comfortable outdoor furniture since that is what most people are looking to enjoy. The furniture on the patio doesn’t provide much comfort for long periods of outdoor enjoyment so that is my only critique but the property overall maintains a solid 5/5 rating.
Will definitely return!

stargazing was superior. the owner/property manager met us at the entrance of the ranch and escorted us to the property as the terlingua ranch is very large. once we arrived, he personally instructed us on the use of all amenities. he is local which is always a plus when u are visiting somewhere new. he had recommendations on trips into the parks, hikes, and local eateries and supplies if needed. there were even some snippet’s about the surrounding geology for the property located in the property welcome book. the structure was as advertised. extremely clean, modern and comfortable: beds were very very comfortable and the showers were huge!! toiletries provided were nice quality as well. bath linens were soft and lush. ac, when needed, worked fine. fans throughout and mother nature provided cool breezy nights. fridge was perfect size for four adults to eat dinners at the cabin each night, and still store picnic items and snacks on top of that. gas cooktop and stove worked well.. absolutely NO BUGS! plenty of parking. extremely peaceful, quiet, and full of views that are as good as or better than those of the parks. conveniently located to both state and national park. as owner suggested, best to buy supplies in alpine or other city on way in as it is pretty high priced in terlingua if you run out or make initial purchases in terlingua. can’t wait to return. hard to believe such a nice property is called a cabin!!! highly recommend this property to anyone visiting the parks who wants privacy and beauty without having to “rough it”. hard to imagine you have wi-fi and tv that works when you can step outside and look up to see the milky way with the beaked eye. can’t say enough good things about this rental.

Great Location and Property
Great Location and Property
We had a GREAT time at the house. It’s a very unique set up — has a kitchen, dining area, and sitting area that have doors at both ends that lead to the outside. There are two bedrooms - one on each side of the house. The bedrooms are not connected to the living area and can only be accessed from the outside. It worked out great for us but it could be an issue with little kids.
There is no gathering place to watch a movie other than one of the two bedrooms with everyone piled in the bed.
It is secluded but you can see a neighbor from the house. Beautiful scenery and peaceful nights….

The view was amazing! The home is well crafted and fits the surroundings perfectly. It was a great place to relax after long days hiking in Big Bend. The host was the best. Met us to show us around the property (it’s solar powered w/backup generator) and had suggestions for the area. The only hurdle is getting to it. The road is rocky, so I highly recommend a vehicle/tires that can handle off roaring. Enjoy your stay!!

A Secluded Big Bend Visit
This is a really nice “off the grid” property. We have always wanted to stay in a home that relied on solar power and this one fit the bill. We brought our own food and ate out once. The kitchen is well stocked and we had no problem preparing meals. Be ready to think about conserving water and electricity. We spent the majority of our 4 days in Big Bend hiking so was not at the house throughout the day. The road to the house requires a high clearance vehicle. We had a Tacoma truck that worked out fine. Ross is a great host and will answer all your questions. The views here are spectacular!

Great getaway
This location was as described, off grid and remote but still with all the basic comforts of home. We did not have much time here and wish we had more but were able to enjoy the peace and serenity of being near... nothing for a couple of days. It was a great base camp point for BBNP as well as Terlingua and Alpine. Would definitely make sure your vehicle can withstand the trip up the mountainside, our SUV did just fine but would have been more worried in a lower profile car or one that didn't have really good new tires (or at least a working spare). We hope to return to spend more than just a couple days here, it is a good getaway from the hustle and bustle of "real life" with 360 degree views of mountains and hills in every direction.
