Charming and beautifully located. Chantal was an excellent host. We had a problem with the heater during our October visit and she came and fixed it right away. There is a view of the Chateaux, just across the river, from the dining room window! It was an experience being on this slim island in the center of the river. We were delighted with the ambience and accessibility to the sights. A note for people with mobility concerns, one enters via a narrow staircase.

This was such a perfect location with a lovely view of the Château of Amboise. Parking was convenient and close. The best was the host! Chantal couldn’t have been more helpful with everything, including her help to haul our suitcases upstairs! (She insisted even though we could have managed fine.) An excellent stay!

This apartment is in the perfect location within walking distance to the beautiful town of Amboise and a good base to explore the Loire area. The 2 bedrooms have full size beds which is important when traveling with older and bigger kids. It is spacious, fully equipped and very clean. The view is amazing. Chantal the host was fantastic, very accommodating in offering us to get in earlier and provided great recommendations. The place has air condition and 2 fans which was needed due to the heat. It is in the 2nd floor with a narrow staircase which is not easy to get full size suit cases up, but well worth it. We will stay there again when we are in the area.

Chantal's La Porte Bleue was perfect for our stay in Amboise. The air conditioning kept everything at just the right temperature night and day. Chantal was there to greet us at the railroad station and made sure we were all settled in. Her recommendations for restaurants and nearby sites were great. We had such a wonderful stay at this cozy little gem in Amboise! Even before our arrival, the host went above and beyond—reaching out with detailed instructions on exactly where to pull up for easy unloading of our luggage, and she was right there waiting to greet us. She was incredibly kind, full of local knowledge, and quick to answer any questions we had throughout our stay.There is a narrow staircase leading up to the apartment, so just be prepared to make an extra trip if you have larger bags—but it’s totally manageable. And once you reach the apartment, you’re rewarded with a warm, cottage-like space that’s absolutely full of charm. Exposed wood beams, hardwood floors, a thoughtful collection of books and regional maps, and a peaceful color scheme all create a relaxing atmosphere.But hands down, the best part was the view. Sitting on the couch with a morning coffee, gazing out at the Château Royal d’Amboise—it was pure magic. And in the evenings, walking along the river just outside the door while the château lights up is something we’ll never forget.The location is unbeatable—just a short walk across the bridge puts you right in the heart of town, and if you’re exploring the Loire Valley by car like we were, it’s an easy drive to other nearby châteaux.I would HIGHLY recommend this property to anyone visiting the region—it was a highlight of our trip!

The apartment is cozy and comfortable. The view across the Loire to the Chateau d'Amboise is wonderful, even more at night with the illumination.The host is helpful and delightful. She provided us information on the opening day for the Caves des Roches and we had a wonderful tour of the caves. Great access across the bridge to Amboise with lovely views of the Loire and the flower beds along the way. Amboise is a good central point for visiting the cities and chateaux - Villandry to the west and Chambord to the east. both leisurely one hour drives along the Loire.

It's just the perfect place to be in Amboise! Spectacular view of the river Loire and the royal castle. Very nice, clean and comfortable apartment, just like a home abroad. We loved our time at the Blue Door. My only regret is that it was too short. The view for breakfast is unbelievable and it’s a quick walk to town. There’s also parking on the island to allow Friday trips to the chateaux.

A Great Apartment in Amboise

We stayed here in May 2019 and found it to be a wonderful spot. Chantal is so gracious and personable - she is available and helpful and has all kinds of suggestions to point you to the places to be in Amboise. The description of the apartment is spot-on. There are about 39 steps (or so) to get to the apartment so you need to be able to do stairs. When we planned pout trip, we were concerned that we would need AC and there is an AC unit in the apartment but we never needed it. The windows opened and allowed a nice breeze through the apartment and that kept it comfortable, although the temperatures were never higher than the mid-70's. The location is quiet and the sound of the water in the river is very pleasant. The apartment is equipped with enough to allow for basic cooking. There is a washing machine and dryer that we used and having these available was very helpful. Parking for your car is on-street - and free - and we found parking spots without any trouble and the farthest we had to walk was maybe 100 yards. The town is within easy walking distance - just across the bridge - so unless you are going elsewhere, you won't need your car once you are there. This is a great spot and one we would stay in again without hesitation.

We were drawn to this property by the promised view and it does not disappoint. Directly across the water from the Château of Amboise, the panorama is awe striking. Four of us comfortably spent a week here, cooking a few meals, doing laundry, and settling in. Chantal is a bubbly, helpful host. It is a 10 minute walk from the train station; 5 minutes across the bridge into the town center. It’s not an apartment for the mobility impaired, as the only access is via a narrow and somewhat steep staircase in the rear of the building. Aside from that caveat, we would heartily recommend it.

Chantal was an amazing host. She greeted us at the train station and even drove us to the rental car agency. The apartment easily fit our family of 5 and the location was absolutely amazing!!! The view from the windows was unbeatable. We could easily walk around town and go to the markets, and drive to Chambord and Chenenceau. We would highly recommend this apartment as a home base for anyone coming to the Loire Valley.

Behind this blue door lies a picure book home, comfortable, sunny, with French country colors and flower borders lovingly painted by Chantal herself. Sitting at the kitchen table by the window eating fresh baguettes and looking across the Loire River at colorful hot air balloons floating over the castle, we felt like we were living in a dream. This home, with its welcoming hostess, is the perfect spot for days of lovely drives, amazing castles, walks across the bridge into town for shopping, gourmet French cooking, or just sitting at the window watching people stroll by, hearing different languages. Amboise is the ideal town for a visit to the Loire Valley, and La Porte Bleu is the perfect Home Away! Cooking breakfast was fun in the cheerful, well-equipped kitchen. The bed and pillows are so comfortable, with fresh, smooth sheets. Laundry facilities in the basement are helpful for the traveler. And reading Chantal’s mother’s story of her experience as a young teenager in WWII France was more moving than many popular novels! Thank you, Chantal, for making the magic of this region of France come true for us.

I stayed at La Porte Bleu for 5 nights with my two daughters (9 & 12). It was the perfect location to use as a base while exploring the chateaux of the Loire Valley! The girls took the two beds in the bedroom while I had the small one in the living room. I am 5’10 and was very comfortable! (I would recommend a fan in the living room for the person sleeping out there on the hot nights) The view from the apartment is even better than the pictures show! While there we were easily able to do day-trips to Chateau Amboise, Clos Lucé, Chenonceau, Chambord, and Tours. All while having plenty of time to simply relax. We loved the town of Amboise! I would highly recommend this rental. Chantal was very helpful in all of our communications and I truly hope to one day return to La Porte Bleu!

Chantal, our host, was wonderful We had trouble getting there because of a train strike. She was extremely helpful. Best host ever! We rented the upstairs flat and it was every thing we needed and more. The location is wonderful. We went on our first hot air balloon ride and we just needed to walk down the block. The city has everything you needed and it is just across the bridge. We loved this city and we loved our stay with Chantal. Because we were on a month long trip and only travel with backpacks, the use of the washer and dryer was much appreciated. Do not hesitate.....book this now before it becomes unavailable. You will not regret it. Oh yeah, the view of the Chateau is amazing! Picture perfect!

We stayed with charming Chantal for two weeks upstairs at The Blue Door, and every day was pure enchantment! The apartment is roomy and well-equipped with everything needed to enjoy a stay in Amboise. The view of the castle just across the river is spectacular -- day and night. Restaurants, shops, groceries, markets all within an easy walk. Amboise is filled with sights and wonders, and fabulous chateaux are just a short distance away. Chantal makes her guests feel like friends. Highly recommend Chantal and The Blue Door!
