The Queen's Head

Breakfast was a simple continental breakfast of strawberries, croissants and jams - fresh and left covered in the room.

Nothing to dislike.

We were blown away by the Queen's Head in Hawkedon. It is clearly loved by the local community, with a really chilled vibe evident immediately on arrival, people relaxing on the chairs at the front and back, relaxing over evening drinks at the end of a busy week. There is a great selection of interesting ciders and ales to try and the interior of the pub has a lovely feel; spacious, beautiful wooden furniture and structural elements, with interesting details and touches catching the eye all over the place. We booked a table for Friday night (the restaurant is open Thurs and Fri) and the food was fabulous; huge portions and every bit of it was delicious, from the imaginative salad, to the perfectly cooked juicy pork and the mouth-watering spicy beef pizza with its veritable smorgasbord of different elements and flavours. We will definitely return for the food alone! The front of house and serving team were all brilliant; cheerful, confident, welcoming, attentive and excellent at their jobs. The deluxe apartment upstairs is stunning. We thought it looked beautiful in the pictures but even they don't do it justice; inside it feels huge, light and airy due to the vaulted ceiling, and we loved the colours, the comfort of the sofa, futon and bed, the beautiful wooden kitchen table, the quirky porthole mirrors in the bathroom and the free standing bath. The multitude of floor sockets was also super useful given the number of devices that we had brought, and they had really gone the extra mile by leaving us fresh bread, oats, nectarines, jams, scones, croissants, strawberries, yoghurts and milk for our breakfasts. We were very lucky to be allowed a late checkout on the Sunday, which was amazing. This place has such a special feel to it and we will remember this trip for a very long time, thank you so much.

We only wish that we could have stayed longer!

Very warm welcome and the host was very accommodating. Lovely laid out apartment with plenty of space, fantastic view from the bedroom with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was spacious with a great shower. Plenty of food and choice for breakfast. The pub was a lovely, very traditional local pub.

There was parking, but the pub was very busy and we were lucky on both days to actually park in the carpark as there was no dedicated parking for the two apartments.

The location was advantageous being in a peaceful village in deep countryside but not far from attractive towns such as Long Melford. The loft rooms were cosey, comfortable and very well provided. Scott and his wife were excellent hosts and most helpful and the meal was very enjoyable. The Queen's Head has plenty of character and agreeable ambiente.

Everything was great.
