Cuckoo Rooms

It was very clean, and when I got hold of the owner when I got there due to not being able to find a hairdryer, she contacted me almost immediately to explain where it was.

It was perfect. I did not want to come home and will be back very shortly.

The room was clean and was a nice touch with the welcome pack Communication for the booking was very good and check in to room access

The windows being old it was difficult to keep them open for fresh air it would be nice if they had some stays as the room was hot due to the weather

Beautiful room and location is good for young people, rather than a solo traveller in need of sleep. Ear plugs had kindly been supplied but this is in a central location within walking distance of the High Street so pros and cons. Nice outside seating area and the restaurant/bar below these rooms serves delicious food, staff were all very friendly too

Noise, heat of the weather was unfortunate. Joanna the cleaner was a very practical lady so she managed to sort the issues with the mixer shower hose temperature for me and agreed they would replace the cord on the Roman blind so this could be raised, rather than hanging it over the top window handle which she does to clean the room, which was immaculate.

A lovely room. It was great having the little kitchen and so cute to have a gift of socks. Comfy bed and all clean and pleasant. And so in the centre it was brilliant.

Could have done with something to make fresh coffee.

The location of the hotel is very central, we reached everywhere on foot , it was perfect. The room was very clean. There is no street noise, but there are very sweet bird sounds that did not bother us, we like to wake up with the sounds of birds. Thank you to cuckoo rooms for this wonderful holiday

We booked the apartment with a kitchenette, combined with the sitting room and bedroom with ensuite separated by a door. The rooms looked good in the photos, and at first glance when we got there; but in reality we quickly learned that while effort had been put into their original design it was sadly lacking in ongoing maintenance and upkeep; with several things broken.

The worst were noises, in particular, we were woken early morning by a rat scratching in the loft above the bedroom. We contacted the owner that day & she offered us to move to a bedroom 1 floor up, with bathroom but without a sitting area/kitchenette. Instead, we were allowed to continue using the sitting room/kitchen downstairs, while the bedroom we used on the 1st night was locked & key taken away. If we needed the bathroom or get anything from a suitcase/wardrobe we had to go upstairs, this was hardly convenient as we had to move everything from the 1st bedroom & bathroom upstairs to the new one that evening; & each time had to remember two 7-digit codes to enter both rooms, plus the 2 other codes for the doors to enter the property, totalling 4! Also, the owners’ statement that they had never had rats there before didn't match the look of a vent in the sitting room/kitchen (see photos). Even though sleeping in the new bedroom was rat-noise free, there was plenty of early morning noise coming from excited pigeons, loudly celebrating their courtship on a windowsill right outside our one-pane windows. I had to get up several times to open a window to scare them off. Everything in the yard outside was covered with anti-pigeon spikes, yet, the windowsill was left bare & so welcoming for very noisy morning pigeons’ parties. Additional problems included the lock faceplate on the bathroom door in the 2nd bedroom being warped & sticking out so it was impossible to close that door, and had clearly been that way for some time from the amount of wood it had knocked out of the door surround above the lock keep; constantly dripping kitchen tap, loose toilet seat that slid to the side, the throw on the bed with burned through holes, frayed ends on several towels, all signs of poor ongoing maintenance.

It was a little pricey for a room with no breakfast and no on-site personnel

easy check-in process, nice rooms, plenty of restaurants nearby

it can be a bit noisy and there is music playing up to 10pm. however, we had a good stay and slept well

Fantastic location in Colchester town centre. Well presented apartment. Modern and stylish room. Superb and engaged host.

Noisy environment being next to outdoor roof terrace for restaurant. Only single glazed windows. However ear plugs were provided.

I really liked the room and the view.. it was very nice and was always clean.. felt like going home
