The Location and the noise isolation is good. Rhe safety is good.
The staff is very slow reaction. Have to wait very long time to see a staff show up or notice the customers are waiting. I understand in British culture that it is very rude to call or ask for staff to show up but this needs to be built upon the staff should be sensitive to the venue. The hotel is managed by a pub but the reception location is difficult to find. There is no sign saying the hotel should be checked in the reception.

Good location and very simple
Sheets had a stain

Central location, convenient to walk everywhere we wanted to get to.
Inability to control temperature in the room. It was very warm, we slept with the window open and a fan blowing ( in February!!!)
Noise outside (made worse because we had to have the window open)

It was clean and modern, right in the centre of the town too.
Trying to gain access through the doors with keycards that didn’t always want to work was annoying.

Location was good
No staff in building so at 4-50am when fire alarm went off there was no one there to instruct on what to do luckily wasn’t a fire but something they should think about also didn’t get luxury room broken wobbly slabs on balcony loose fixtures and was small

It’s close to where I needed to be.
The thermostat was stuck at 23. Made the bathroom feel tropical! The whole hotel was roasting hot. Being on the high street side was noisy and so to feel a normal temperature i had to open the window. And then it’s really noisy (it’s noisy even with the window shut). So it’s a choice between not sleeping during to heat or noise.
The bath didn’t drain so slowly filled whilst showering. The shower had no real pressure. The select button to change the spray didn’t work.
When you consider that a basic hotel is so you can sleep and shower and both those were poor experiences then it’s pretty much failed for what you needed it for.
Oh and there was a fire alarm at 5am on my second night. Apparently from someone’s shower. Expect they found their bathroom too hot so opened the bathroom door.
All in all one of my worst hotel stays I can remember.

I loved the location right in city centre. I had no idea it’d be so self serve but that suited me fine.
There was a little food on the wall but that’s all

Clean and great location
We were unable to increase the temperature in the room and it was freezing all night. I contacted the hotel and was told the temperature of the hotel was controlled centrally - despite a thermostat in the room and was nothing they could do - was freezing all night

The rooms were a very good size
One of our family rooms was incredibly hot; in fact, it was unbearable. We reported it to reception, and nothing was done about it. A sleepless night was had, which dampened my special birthday with my family. The control on the wall was locked, and the room was 29 degrees. Even opening the windows did nothing, so I'm very disappointed.

Very little
no controller for the tv after waiting hours to then have a power cut to then having the water cut out on me half way through a shower and then even the room we got moved into was freezing cold, very loud because of how easily the noise travels through and kids running up and down the stairs late at night. Used to be amazing here now I wouldn’t recommend

Location and ease of check in and out
Got given a room that wasn’t even cleaned!! Then reception tried giving a room nothing like what we booked. The closest was turning a twin into a double which you shouldn’t do in the future as it was just an uncomfortable sleep. No extra pillow was provided. Asked about compensation for the hassle and only got in return is “It’s a similar price room so you won’t get nothing but someone will get a serious talking too” (Still not the room I booked)

Access to the hotel from the train station. Breakfast.
Arrived in the hotel but could not enter the room right away. Need to check in at another nearby hotel to get the room key card. The room provides the electric fan, no AC.

The way the staff handle my booking
Went to the hotel
Can't get in the front door had to go over the road to another hotel to book in
Got to the booking desk
The young woman behind the desk asked for my booking number
Was told that they couldn't aconadate me
Said the lift was out of order
And she said that I had to find some other hotel to stay
I'm disabled and a 72 yes and it was late in the evening
Not very helpful 😕

It was a great location as we was attending a wedding at the city hall
It did kill me that the lift was out of order and the noise from the surrounding pubs was a little off putting.

The room was clean. There was no-one on site and no room service. The main hotel - The George, had far better facilities.
The room was old looking and tired there were stains on the headboard and walls. the balcony was dirty and had chewing gum stuck on the terrace tiles. there was no reception and the main door opened on to the high street and remained open for a good while after we entered. I would not have felt very safe if I was on my own - there were a number of drug addicts sitting in doorways, it was not particularly nice to have to walk past them to get into the lobby of the building we were staying in. The breakfast was well below par. my husband asked for eggs sunny side up but they arrived hard and rubbery. I asked for scrambled eggs and when they arrived they were grey. not sure I would stay here again.

Size of the room.
Room to hot, no working temperature controls. Outside noise unacceptable past midnight, windows open to ventilate allowing noise volume too high. Partner got very little sleep. Too expe

The room was a nice size for a one night stay, clean with a comfortable bed. The location is the best part, walking distance to the City Centre and to the Castle!!
There was no air con in the room and it was very hot, we had a fan but that just blew the hot air around.

Nothing
Freezing. Like a morturary. Hallways heated like a tropical jungle - my room - minus 2..
Water was luke warm - no ice machine and calling the hotel over the road was pointless.
No fridge, so warm water only. Very very disappointed and minor rigamortis setting when i left.
I would add im menopausal and have hot flushes which stopped totally. An ice bath wouldve been warmer.
As above.
No fridge?? No comp water. Tv barely worked. Air con/heating hanging off the wall. No blankets.
Bare essentials - and i had a king suite with wrap terrace. Ive stayed in central London for less money and far superior facilities.

Great location for castle park festivals and high street, modern and clean rooms, had everything we needed, staff helpful 👍
No parking we drove around for ages trying to find a car park with reasonable prices but was still £12 a night 👎

The location is excellent—right in the town centre and close to places we visit regularly in Colchester.
The room was unbearably hot, despite comfortable temperatures outside. A fan was provided, but it only blew warm air and didn’t help at all. It felt like a sauna, and we genuinely considered sleeping outside. For the price paid, we expected proper ventilation or air conditioning.
Noise was also a problem. We accepted that being in the town centre would come with some noise, but without air conditioning, we had to keep the windows open, which made it much worse.
We specifically chose this hotel because it advertised EV charging. While we understand the chargers are located in a public car park, they were consistently occupied by non-EV vehicles. This forced us to search for alternative charging points, which was stressful and defeated the purpose of booking a hotel with this facility. Reception acknowledged the issue but said they couldn’t do much. We believe the hotel could help by reporting these incidents to encourage enforcement.
Overall, we were disappointed. With some improvements—particularly around room temperature and EV charging management—we’d consider staying again.
