Quiet, well equipped village apartment
Small ground floor apartment close to rail station, local shop, Birnam Arts and bookshop. 3 cafés within easy walking distance. Woodland and river walks nearby. I found it quiet and well equipped with a comfortable bed, a bath and shower and good kitchen. Obliging owner gave me the code for his garage so I could leave my luggage if I arrived early. Good base to explore the Highlands.

Not clean or comfortable.. Bad customer service.
Location is beautiful and neighbours lovely and friendly. Ideal being within walking distance if train station. A nice little shop and cafe nearby for essentials too.
This is the email sent to host. Host response was not at all satisfactory. No.apology or offer of compensation. Hi Mark, We checked out at 10am today and I'm to say it was quite a disappointing stay. I will begin with the positives first as there were some great aspects to it too. The location was perfect for us being close to the train station and having a small shop nearby and a nice cafe. The street itself where the accommodation was is quaint and beautiful with lovely friendly neighbours and although the noise of the main street traffic can be heard it's still peaceful there. It was wonderful having the Beatrix potter garden nearby and being a shirt walk from Dunkeld too. As for the the accommodation itself. From the outside it appears quaint and cozy although it's obvious the windows require repainting. Upon entry we observed a rather stale musty smell which remained throughout our stay. No idea what the cause was but it certainly didn't have that freshly cleaned smell one would expect on arrival to a holiday home. In the description it says it has been freshly decorated. It's very clear that the place has not been decorated recently at all. The bedroom light fitting base is missing and wiring visible and unsightly. This was photographed and put in a review by a previous guest so I had assumed it would have been rectified before our stay. You asked me if I'd like the bedroom set up as a twin or super king bed. I requested a super king. But on arrival it was set up as a twin. My friend was using this room and she is 6ft tall hence the request for the super king set up so this was not ideal for her. She did not sleep comfortable or well. The dingy patterned bedding was off putting and smelled musty as well. White bedding is always best so that guests can see it is clean. The bedroom door does not close properly or easily. The full length mirror was in the most awkward of places where you couldn't really use it.

A charming and very welcoming place to stay. Highly recommended..
Fantastic location for Birnam amenities. My husband has mobility problems and could never have managed a walk to or from the station but we obtained a local taxi without any trouble. Lovely clean welcoming property, where the hosts' hospitality extended to complimentary crisps, shortbread and a bottle of white wine chilling in the fridge. Housekeeping was excellent, with very generous provision of towels, bedding, etc. The Wee Nook is indeed compact, as its name suggests, but also incredibly snug.
The view from the kitchen window onto the shared garden was charming. Unfortunately - and this is probably beyond the control of the hosts - the sitting room at the front looked straight onto a piece of waste land housing a dilapidated old vehicle (caravan?) and other unsightly objects. The outlook was so depressing that we kept the blinds drawn down throughout our stay. In every other respect, our experience was hugely enjoyable.

overall pleasant stay
The wee nook was very functional in terms of there being a small kitchen and washing machine with drying rack and there was enough space overall for the two of us. The location near the lovely arts center and beatrix potter garden was good, and it wasn't too far to walk into Dunkeld downtown where most the shops are. The neighborhood is safe, quiet and lovely with lots of families. There is a small grocery/convenience store located nearby. And the garden just outside the kitchen is very pretty. Housekeeping was very responsive as well, as we had a slight issue upon arrival. They remedied it almost immediately! Marc was responsive as well. And it was great that we could leave our luggage in the locked shed in back until our taxi arrived to take us to our afternoon train.
The unit isn't terribly private - there are people who can be heard moving around above (although they weren't heavy footed), and there are people driving by/parking just outside the front window and bedroom window. If you're walking from the train will roller cases, it isn't really workable as it is a fair distance including the last stretch on a bumpy gravel road. Also the instructions left for guests requested that we recycle our own glass, which was quite a distance on foot as well but wouldn't be far by car.
