Small ground floor apartment close to rail station, local shop, Birnam Arts and bookshop. 3 cafés within easy walking distance. Woodland and river walks nearby. I found it quiet and well equipped with a comfortable bed, a bath and shower and good kitchen. Obliging owner gave me the code for his garage so I could leave my luggage if I arrived early. Good base to explore the Highlands.

Location is beautiful and neighbours lovely and friendly. Ideal being within walking distance if train station. A nice little shop and cafe nearby for essentials too.
This is the email sent to host. Host response was not at all satisfactory. No.apology or offer of compensation.
Hi Mark,
We checked out at 10am today and I'm to say it was quite a disappointing stay. I will begin with the positives first as there were some great aspects to it too. The location was perfect for us being close to the train station and having a small shop nearby and a nice cafe. The street itself where the accommodation was is quaint and beautiful with lovely friendly neighbours and although the noise of the main street traffic can be heard it's still peaceful there. It was wonderful having the Beatrix potter garden nearby and being a shirt walk from Dunkeld too.
As for the the accommodation itself. From the outside it appears quaint and cozy although it's obvious the windows require repainting. Upon entry we observed a rather stale musty smell which remained throughout our stay. No idea what the cause was but it certainly didn't have that freshly cleaned smell one would expect on arrival to a holiday home.
In the description it says it has been freshly decorated. It's very clear that the place has not been decorated recently at all.
The bedroom light fitting base is missing and wiring visible and unsightly. This was photographed and put in a review by a previous guest so I had assumed it would have been rectified before our stay. You asked me if I'd like the bedroom set up as a twin or super king bed. I requested a super king. But on arrival it was set up as a twin. My friend was using this room and she is 6ft tall hence the request for the super king set up so this was not ideal for her. She did not sleep comfortable or well. The dingy patterned bedding was off putting and smelled musty as well. White bedding is always best so that guests can see it is clean. The bedroom door does not close properly or easily. The full length mirror was in the most awkward of places where you couldn't really use it.

Fantastic location for Birnam amenities. My husband has mobility problems and could never have managed a walk to or from the station but we obtained a local taxi without any trouble. Lovely clean welcoming property, where the hosts' hospitality extended to complimentary crisps, shortbread and a bottle of white wine chilling in the fridge. Housekeeping was excellent, with very generous provision of towels, bedding, etc. The Wee Nook is indeed compact, as its name suggests, but also incredibly snug.
The view from the kitchen window onto the shared garden was charming. Unfortunately - and this is probably beyond the control of the hosts - the sitting room at the front looked straight onto a piece of waste land housing a dilapidated old vehicle (caravan?) and other unsightly objects. The outlook was so depressing that we kept the blinds drawn down throughout our stay. In every other respect, our experience was hugely enjoyable.

The wee nook was very functional in terms of there being a small kitchen and washing machine with drying rack and there was enough space overall for the two of us. The location near the lovely arts center and beatrix potter garden was good, and it wasn't too far to walk into Dunkeld downtown where most the shops are. The neighborhood is safe, quiet and lovely with lots of families. There is a small grocery/convenience store located nearby. And the garden just outside the kitchen is very pretty. Housekeeping was very responsive as well, as we had a slight issue upon arrival. They remedied it almost immediately! Marc was responsive as well. And it was great that we could leave our luggage in the locked shed in back until our taxi arrived to take us to our afternoon train.
The unit isn't terribly private - there are people who can be heard moving around above (although they weren't heavy footed), and there are people driving by/parking just outside the front window and bedroom window. If you're walking from the train will roller cases, it isn't really workable as it is a fair distance including the last stretch on a bumpy gravel road. Also the instructions left for guests requested that we recycle our own glass, which was quite a distance on foot as well but wouldn't be far by car.

Enjoyed our stay. We have been to Dunkeld many times but first stay in Birnam.
Shower pressure a bit weak.
Couldn't locate oven gloves.

Great location, very close to train station, river walks and Dunkeld.
Living area was not very clean with clumps of dogs hairs around furniture and rug, flat was a bit grubby all round. Sofa bed needs new mattress, could feel bars and springs on frame. No welcome pack, only 1 waste bag left and half a toilet roll, had to go out and buy own. Shower pressure poor.

very comfortable and well presented. Great quiet location. Easy to find. Host gave excellent instructions. Kitchen well kitted out. 😀
Most minor of niggles- toilet seat kept falling down when you went to sit down 😂. But really, it was nothing worth complaining about.

The location was great.
Very noisy from people upstairs. Hoover didn't work with a hairy dog that wasn't great. The shower really needs updating and a shower head that works

Everything! Very cosy place, and very clean.
We hadn't realised there was a PS3 with come games provided so that was a nice surprise!
The location is great, it's only about 8 minutes walk from the station and it's only about 15 minutes to walk into the center of Dunkeld. There are lots of long walks you can go on straight from the place which is great.
Would highly recommend staying here.
Such a small thing and doesn't affect my rating at all, but we couldn't find any oven gloves and had to use drying cloths. To be fair, they may juxt have been tucked away in a cupboard and we missed them!

The location was lovely. The Village of Birnam was small but the facilities were excellent. It was a short walk to Dunkeld but beautiful, particularly the river separating the villages. The locals were friendly and very welcoming.
There was nothing not to like. Places to eat, food very good, picturesque, clean and the accommodation was lovely with everything you might need and easily accessible. Will definitely visit again.

The Wee Nook is a home from home, cosy, well equipped and a perfect location to explore the surrounding areas and the fantastic walks.
The welcome gifts of wine, shortbread, crisps was a really nice touch.
The kitchen was really well equipped with everything you could possibly need. It was great that the tea towels, washing up stuff, hand soap etc was supplied which you don't always have in a self catering property.
As we had our dog with us the only thing we would have liked was a more secure tidier garden area but we appreciate the neighbours were having work done while we were there.

The property was comfortable and well equipped.
We were really lucky with the weather and it would have been lovely to have had a more comfortable outside space to sit in. Not a complaint at all as there were plenty of nice spots a short walk away.

The apartment is in a really central location. There is easy access to Dunkeld, just a 15 minute walk away and there are shops and cafes in Birnam. We hired this cottage as it has such easy access to the many walking routes by the river and in the forests. The flat is dog friendly, so we were able to bring our pet. All the floors are laminate, so there are no worries about muddy paw prints on the carpet! The mattress on the bed is orthopedic and gave us a great night's sleep.
Just a tiny niggle - the weather wasn't kind to us while we were there, but we still went out for walks. We brought our own towels to wipe down our dog after walks and washed them in the flat's washing machine, but it was difficult to dry them. The heating was turned off, except early in the morning and there was no tumble dryer. A washer/dryer would have worked better.

Very comfy and snug with all we needed , and great to be able to have a nice hot bath after a days walking in the area
Birnam is a lovely village, quick and pleasant stroll onto dunkeld and great bookshop and village shop just at the corner , nice outdoor sitting area at the back of the cottage but it does get some road noise which did not bother us but might be a disappointment if you were looking for total rural quiet , inside the house is perfectly quiet though and the location is otherwise really handy

Nice , clean and comfortable and secluded yet central location.
Lock on outside door sticks and neighbours say most guests have trouble with it. Bath doesn’t drain quickly.
