Quirky. Comfy beds. Dark bedrooms to aid sleep. Lots of books to browse. Very quiet. Nice private area to sit out and read. Felt safe.
Perhaps a little better light needed in living area

Comfy beds, nice outside spaces, lovely location.
Lighting poor in living room- no good for reading.
Kitchen very cosy- if suggested that a group of ten might book all cottages then it would be a real squeeze to cook there…

We started our three month driving tour of Scotland at Barns Library Cottage and it put us straight into Scotland mode. Everything inside the cottage was beautifully presented and in particular I just LOVED the main bedroom. It was a joy to go to bed and to wake up in the morning. As an added bonus, there were snowdrops in flower in the woods on the property!
While staying there, we were also able to take a look around Neidpath Castle, even though they were setting up for a wedding at the time, which was very generous indeed. Thank you to Rachel for that, and especially to Lulu, who was able to tell us a great deal about the history of the place. I can't recommend Barns Library Cottage highly enough. We loved our stay which was for five nights and we saw so much of the Borders region during our four full days there. The only recommendation that I would give to others is that seven nights would have been much better to truly enjoy the whole of the borders region but the Peebles vicinity is a great place to base yourself.
The armchairs in the sitting room could use restuffing and it would have been great if somehow the shower head for the bath in the ensuite could have been used as a proper shower instead. Oh, and some instructions on how to operate the main shower! That had me puzzled for a little bit but I figured it out in the end.

The property was exactly as described in the photos. I travelled with my 80 year old mother. She loved the comfortable four poster bed and the en-suite bathroom. We enjoyed walking around the grounds and cozy evenings in beside the fire. It was very warm in the property.
The added extras were plentiful - from bath and shower toiletries to kitchen food essentials. There was enough food provided to make breakfast which we weren’t expecting.
Nothing at all within the property, but a slightly earlier check in and later out would have been preferred, especially on a short stay.

Excellent place to stay. Cosy, comfortable lounge with wood burning stove (logs supplied). Good sized table suitable for eating together and playing games. Nice bathrooms, one with roll top bath, toiletries supplied. Kitchen is small but well equipped and has a full sized fridge/freezer. We appreciated the kind gestures such as the welcome pack and Christmas tree in the lounge. Walks from the house along the Rover Tweed. Short car journey to Peebles which has lots of independent shops and cafes.

Location, refurbishment, furniture and books. Also the fact that some food supplies were included
The second bedroom was intended for two children but we were four adults. The single beds were very comfortable but there was no dressing table, mirror or space for makeup

The photos of the cottage didn’t do it justice, it was bigger than we thought it would be and certainly had the ‘wow factor’ There was a problem with the bath tap but as soon as we messaged to inform them someone was there to investigate. Sitting in front of the wood burner with a glass of wine was bliss and there was a good supply of logs to burn. The beds were extremely comfortable which is always a bonus. We walked into Peebles walking through woods and following the river, it brought it home what a perfect location it was. Would definitely stay again.

Fantastically lushly decorated 2 bedroom stable conversion. Main bedroom has four poster bed and great en suite. Good shower room and second toilet between main bedroom and twin bedroom. Sits on the Tweed Dale path with great walks from the door. Estate is beautiful, private gardens to walk around and good secure walled garden if you have a dog that needs a secure place to run off lead. Nice private garden to sit out in. Never actually met any of the staff, all managed perfectly via email and they left good food and fruit supplies to get you started on your arrival. Decor is stylish, library based but quirky/ eclectic and lush with a log burner that has enough wood supplied for a month of cosy nights in. Kitchen is modern and well equipped
Nothing to complain about, we loved staying there and it suited us and our dog perfectly. About 10 minutes drive from Peebles, it has a long farm track from road to the property that could put some people off, but if you want a country property then this is ideal

Absolutely wonderful stay, the library exceeded our expectations. We stayed for New Year and the library was provided with logs for the fire and a Christmas Tree. Lovely comfortable accommodation that we were sad to leave. We managed to visit Edinburgh for the day, which was an hours drive away so had the perfect mix of a rural and city trip

A genuinely unique place to stay! Well equipped and si quiet and cosy. Stunning location!!
Nothing really. Perhaps the photos on booking.com could show the huge walk in shower room as there are two bathrooms in the accommodation. One has the bath the other has a walk in shower this is not clear on the photos as it only shows the Bath.

The property was very cosy and spacious. It was clean and well equipped. The location was stunning and the grounds and garden were very well maintained. The buildings were beautiful and the inside was modern with a vintage, antique like feel. There was so much to like about this property with lots of nice extra touches and some luxury thrown in. There were lots of cool books to read and the bath and shower were brilliant. It was genuinely super dog friendly and one of the best properties I have stayed in.
Nothing really just the odd thing that needs replaced due to wear and tear.

The hosts were very thoughtful and left bread, milk & eggs. The cottage was lovely. The bath is fantastic, the kitchen had pretty much everything needed. The wood burning stove was lush.
If I was pushed to find a fault, there were no egg cups. Hardly a real problem.

The general finish which was high quality and imaginative.
Not enough reading lighting in the living area - could be remedied by the use of a standard lamp or similar.

A very well appointed cottage which appears to have been recently converted from part of a stable block. The property has been finished to a very high standard and the attention to detail is apparent throughout the home. The house is furnished beautifully in a traditional country house style with an 18th century vibe, very stylish and comfortable with a substantial library of books. The property sits in a beautiful estate only a short walk from the River Tweed and is very peaceful yet only a short drive from Peebles. Book it, you won’t regret it.
Some may grumble about the location but if you don’t want to be in the country side book in town.

Everything else of course..😉😍😍😍
Especially the bathroom🛀 in the Master four poster room😍😍😍..the sofa and furnishings.. curtains...blinds..the windows..the doors..the log fire 🔥..the paintings and ornaments... the selection of books📚..the high ceiling..the rainfall shower...and the kitchen crockery😉 and the planting of nature by the windows 🌿🌸oh and the staff provide eggs bread butter alittle milk to get you started.Tea Coffee Sugar banana 🍌 apples and oranges all the cleaning things you require..👍
Four poster mattress very firm for me..I would have expected a more spring form mattress.. especially for third young couples perhaps 😉 The single beds will not be adequate is your over 6ft..but so comfy for me..I just curled up my tootsies👣.. It was mentioned due to a disability that a nice grab rail in the walk in shower would have been very useful and or a non slip mat underfoot. Some egg cups and a toast rack would have been nice touch for ladies at breakfast😉 I'm not a fan of teflon pots after watching a true TV drama.. especially as one of the pots was unfortunately well scratched..and a wee piece of strip lighting it floor/stair lighting on the step in the hallway for the evening toilet run..😱😰 Oh and Time and Tide on Peebles High Street do lovely bee cushions..maybe some new feather cushion inserts for your cushion covers..We brought our own to use along with what was in place just incase...ladies that are creatures of comfort..😉☺️
