We four (three adults, one child) enjoyed our four night stay at Lime Cottage. Convenient for what we had in mind re visiting relatives in the area. Also convenient train service to Edinburgh. The estate grounds are lovely (mid-Sept). Gentle if manicured walks and pleasing views of.the Pentland Hills.

We loved our stay at Arniston, our cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and it is in a beautiful location. We were able to walk our dog around the grounds (she says lots of exciting sniffs - highly recommend!) and enjoy the huge old trees that are all over the estate. Henrietta the owner didn't intrude but was always happy to help if we had a question. Edinburgh is a short drive or train ride away (but do bring a car as the location is very rural - part of the charm), so you can really mix town and country. It is also easy to get to the Scottish Borders and visit the castles and abbeys dotted around.

The location is perfect. Just to the south of Edinburgh, within easy reach of interesting places such as Rosslyn & Stirling.A long, tree-lined road leads up to the cottages. The cottage itself was clean, with everything you could need to make your stay comfortable. We took the tour of the house, given by Henrietta and her mother who filled it with many personal anecdotes and observations. Much better than a dry talk from someone with no connection to the family. My favourite room, the library. I would love a room like that. The grounds of the estate are also worth walking around, with the Sunken Garden being particularly nice.Overall a perfect place for a relaxing break away from everything.

Kitchen worktops and cupboards needed to be cleaned before use. Dirty marks on several of the electric fires. Stains on the living room chairs. Paint work needed wiping . Dust and cobwebs found. Felt that the whole property needed up update. Location was great and grounds were beautiful.

The cottage was perfect for our stay, safe location for our children, near railway station. Having access to free firewood was a lovely touch.

A bit disappointed in some aspects of housekeeping ie., oven needed cleaned, some crockery needed washed, toaster had a lot of crumbs on tray, vac cleaner brush head full of dog hairs, outside front door mat very dirty. We groomed our dogs everyday after exercise to keep the cottage clean and had crates for them to sleep in at night

The cottage ticked all our boxes. Log fire, large kitchen, 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, set in beautiful Scottish countryside, close to Edinburgh.

4 nights at the Lime cottage this time. Again, overall an excellent stay with great value for money and beautiful grounds to explore. Lime cottage benefits from the ground floor ensuite bedroom, which suited the wife and I perfectly. Cozy nights with a fire in the living room and ability to prepare our own breakfast/dinner at our time of choice. As long as you have a car this makes a great base to explore the region and if you don't like navigating the traffic in downtown Edinburgh, just park at either Gorebridge, Newton Grange or Eskbank train stations and hop on the Borders train to Waverly station downtown. All in all a very peaceful stay in a quaint restored stone cottage. We will be back.
