We four (three adults, one child) enjoyed our four night stay at Lime Cottage. Convenient for what we had in mind re visiting relatives in the area. Also convenient train service to Edinburgh. The estate grounds are lovely (mid-Sept). Gentle if manicured walks and pleasing views of.the Pentland Hills.

We loved our stay at Arniston, our cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and it is in a beautiful location. We were able to walk our dog around the grounds (she says lots of exciting sniffs - highly recommend!) and enjoy the huge old trees that are all over the estate. Henrietta the owner didn't intrude but was always happy to help if we had a question. Edinburgh is a short drive or train ride away (but do bring a car as the location is very rural - part of the charm), so you can really mix town and country. It is also easy to get to the Scottish Borders and visit the castles and abbeys dotted around.

The location is perfect. Just to the south of Edinburgh, within easy reach of interesting places such as Rosslyn & Stirling.A long, tree-lined road leads up to the cottages. The cottage itself was clean, with everything you could need to make your stay comfortable. We took the tour of the house, given by Henrietta and her mother who filled it with many personal anecdotes and observations. Much better than a dry talk from someone with no connection to the family. My favourite room, the library. I would love a room like that. The grounds of the estate are also worth walking around, with the Sunken Garden being particularly nice.Overall a perfect place for a relaxing break away from everything.

Kitchen worktops and cupboards needed to be cleaned before use. Dirty marks on several of the electric fires. Stains on the living room chairs. Paint work needed wiping . Dust and cobwebs found. Felt that the whole property needed up update.
Location was great and grounds were beautiful.

The cottage was perfect for our stay, safe location for our children, near railway station. Having access to free firewood was a lovely touch.

A bit disappointed in some aspects of housekeeping ie., oven needed cleaned, some crockery needed washed, toaster had a lot of crumbs on tray, vac cleaner brush head full of dog hairs, outside front door mat very dirty. We groomed our dogs everyday after exercise to keep the cottage clean and had crates for them to sleep in at night

The cottage ticked all our boxes. Log fire, large kitchen, 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, set in beautiful Scottish countryside, close to Edinburgh.

4 nights at the Lime cottage this time. Again, overall an excellent stay with great value for money and beautiful grounds to explore. Lime cottage benefits from the ground floor ensuite bedroom, which suited the wife and I perfectly. Cozy nights with a fire in the living room and ability to prepare our own breakfast/dinner at our time of choice. As long as you have a car this makes a great base to explore the region and if you don't like navigating the traffic in downtown Edinburgh, just park at either Gorebridge, Newton Grange or Eskbank train stations and hop on the Borders train to Waverly station downtown. All in all a very peaceful stay in a quaint restored stone cottage. We will be back.

The cottage is lovely and has all the amenities that you need. Great that the cottages are dog friendly so that the beautiful countryside can be explored with our dogs too. Any questions are addressed immediately and I would highly recommend staying at Lime Cottage

Beautiful setting, lovely cottage. I could happily live there. Other family members were staying at Gardner's House which was delightful.

A beautiful cottage and setting, every effort had been made to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The log burner with plenty of fire wood made for cosey evenings. Ideal for trips into Edinburgh.

Everything about the stay was perfect. I particularly like that there was not an extra charge for logs. The country side and nature are beautiful and abundant. We felt happy, comfortable and welcomed during our stay. We are going back in November.

Really enjoyed the location and the history of the cottage. I only stayed for three nights. Should have stayed longer. I liked the property. Lots of history there. Much more fun than a hotel. The host, Henrietta, communicated well.

Lovely place and nice and quiet to get a good nights sleep. It was perfect for the 3 of us as we were really using it to sleep as we travelled into Edinburgh which was quite close, only 30 minutes by train and the drive into town was quick to get to the train. Well located in that regard. Thank you!!!

I was looking for a quiet country cottage near Edinburgh that would give us an opportunity to explore Lothian and the Borderlands - and we found it!
Our two room place had a quaint, old world feel but was full of modern conveniences and hospitality. It was great to have a large kitchen, a living-dining area and two bedrooms, one upstairs, one down with the option of a hot bath upstairs. The location is very quiet and calm, 1 mile off the main roadways into Gorebridge. We used this comfortable base to launch into several fun day excursions to the Scottish coast and fascinating local attractions. Henrietta dropped by on our first night to check to see if all was as expect; I appreciated the caring touch from her.

This is the second time we have stayed in the cottages. It’s in a lovely location and is very convenient for us visiting family in the area. The cottages have many traditional features which are lovely albeit some are looking a little bit tired, however, excellent value for money.

We picked Arniston as its a great base to explore Edinburgh and the surrounding areas whilst being cosy and accommodating for those with mobility constraints and dog lovers. The properties offer great value and this was our second stay at Lime Cottage. And believe it or not the sun shone all week.

Beautiful cottage and estate. Perfect for relaxing. Plenty to see and do as Edinburgh City is very close. Very welcoming and excellent communication with the host.

Full of anticipation we started our journey to Gorebridge. The driveway to the cottage is absolutely beautiful. The cottage itself has a cozy vintage look in a quiet location. Exactly what we were looking for. The fireplace was already prepared for the first time using it. We had a very nice, comfortable time here. What I need to criticise is the kitchen, which disappointed me somehow. In the pictures it looks quite modern and well equipped. Unfortunately, the kitchen furniture is worn and getting old. The dishes are limited, which means that I had to rinse them several times because otherwise there wouldn’t have been enough. There were no lids for the pots. The cleanliness in the cottage is good according to the circumstances.

Arniston Cottages
We rented two cottages for ourselves and visiting family. They were very well equipped and comfortable. There was a huge amount of local information provided in the cottages on everything including take-aways, shopping, restaurants, and visits to Edinburgh. The Estate is very beautiful, with the house furnished with original items and pictures. The grounds contain lots of old trees and wildlife such as owls, bats, and birds. We had a lovely time there despite the weather.

Relaxing Scottish break
Good location within 30 minutes of city centre. Relaxing grounds to walk around. Henrietta the host was always available and most helpful. Ideal for a small family with dogs catered for as well. Not the biggest property but comfortable for 2 couples or children. Good strong WiFi signal and not too far from shops and city centre.

A serene stay in the Scottish countryside
We enjoyed our stay in the historic Lime Cottage. Beds were comfy, the cottage was warm and it contained everything you need for a short break. Parking right at your door, the extensive grounds of Arniston House outside and a train station 10 minutes away for trips into the Edinburgh Fringe and Tattoo. Great place to stay near Edinburgh.

A Jewel in the Crown
A great stay in a stately location. Having your own lime tree lined drive to your cottage sets the tone for an idyllic week away from it all. Delightful cottage equipped with all you need ideal for two couples with 2 bathrooms up and downstairs. Away from the hustle and bustle but within reach of Edinburgh and the towns and villages of Lothian and beyond. So quiet especially at night so great sleeps. A tour of Arniston Hall is a must so much history and renovations continue to make it a ‘homely’ home,
