Appartamento di Melo

It’s a fabulous location. It’s the best area of Ortigia, by far. You’re very close to the sea, and the best beach in Ortigia (Calarossa), as well as restaurants and the major sites such as the Duomo Piazza, etc. However, despite the proximity to all these great places, it’s quite quiet and peaceful. There is nearby parking that the house manager can easily arrange. As for the house itself, it is spacious and the terrace is quite nice with a generous glimpse of the sea. Also, the AC units worked great, which was super important during the hot Sicily summer.

Unfortunately, there were major issues with the apartment. First and foremost was the overwhelming smell of cat urine upon approaching and entering the building. It is nauseating. The woman on the first floor is feeding and housing a herd of wild cats which we saw come and go throughout our stay. Contrary to other responses by the owner, this is not something we’ve seen in all other apartments in the city. The smell is so strong at times that we could detect it distinctly in the front room of the apartment even with the door closed. One of the cats would come and go as it pleases in the stairwell via an open balcony. Also, both of the showers are very small and awkwardly configured. It seems strange given the relatively large size of the bathrooms. Also, one of the showers has an electoral outlet that is immediately next to the shower curtain. It seems very unsafe. Lastly, the beds were quite uncomfortable and cheap.

We liked absolutelly everything. The location was great, apartament is fully equiped, nice designed and furnished. We can strongly recomend both - apartament and the owner because of excelent communication and help.
