Beware: you can’t check in to this apartment until after 4pm

Apartment was clean and had good facilities, including the large bedroom. It’s close to the ferry and railway stations

It’s a pretty soul-less apartment at the wrong end of town. The 4pm check in is a joke. Guests have to be out by 10am so who takes six hours to clean a tiny apartment?? It’s a stingy way of operating. The offer to store bags after 12pm is disingenuous too as the offered area is unsecured. Insisting on a 4pm check in is simply unfair on arriving guests. I have never come across it anywhere in the world. And despite paying more than 650 Euro for three nights the host wanted to charge me 2 Euro for coffee pods!! It seemed a miserly and unfriendly approach. The apartment is near the service end of town which means it is a long walk into the pretty end of town. There are much better options in Varenna. I wish I had booked elsewhere.

It's not a very good experience to stay there and not worth for the value we paid

The property is close to the train station

Our room is on the third floor of the property, there is no elevator, and we have to carry all luggages up ( I have tried to ask and confirm this before, but no answer). And the room you can not use before 4pm. The shower room door was missing, we couldn't take a shower properly, all the water was running out onto the bathroom floor, therefore the bathroom was very slippery, making us insecure to step in, and there is only one set of bath towels to use for two nights stay.

Pricy for a short stay due to add-on fees.

We could check in earlier than stated. Very nice large well kept flat! Close to the train station.

Becomes very expensive (esp. for a short stay) with the added "Property service charge" (60 EUR) (for what?) and the "Cleaning fee" (60 EUR)! I do not understand why Booking allows such add-on fees, since it really makes a mess when you search for a good price/value stay. Rather complicated online check-in procedure.

Varenna is stunning, well worth a visit, we are keen to come back and would be more than happy to stay in this room agai

Not quite in the heart of the old town but essentially across the road. Close to the station which was very convenient. A lovely outlook over the lake and the mountains. A tidy, very serviceable room I’d be more than happy to recommend to my friends and use again.

No real issues. Communication assumes you have access to wireless at the location on the day. A slightly earlier check in would be useful.

A lovely apartment in one of the world’s most beautiful locations.

This quiet, sunny apartment is perfectly located a short walk to everything in Varenna. The host was very helpful with clear instructions for a smooth self check in. Comfortable bed & well equipped apartment with everything you need. Grocery store, beach, restaurants, ferries & train station all a few minutes walk away. Varenna is so romantic & magical. I highly recommend staying here.

A sauna chamber in a hot summer

Location is great

When I put the order I was charged TWICE of the room fee, and later I was told that it was a problem of the bank. No AC, cannot sleep in a hot summer night every day. Guests need to take care of disposing garbage etc however we are charged room cleaning fee for some €50 per night. The hairdryer does not work at all. The room is pretty much like a Sauna chamber. Not recommended for visiting in July.

Clean apartment in great location

It was a very clean and neat apartment in a fantastic location. An easy walk from the ferry, train station and restaurants

Previous reviews said it was spacious, certainly the bedroom was … but the couch was in the kitchen so no real living room as such. Communication was tricky with the host but it all worked out in the end. Check in time was very late from 17.00 and it would have been helpful to know in advance that luggage could be stored at the property

The location can’t be beat, especially if you’re backpacking and using the train. Quiet. Bed was very comfortable. Go see Nadia at the store across the street. What a lady!!!

The price was a little higher than we were seeing elsewhere but we took it because of the location. Also, places has cancellable reservations which this place did not offer.

Home away from home

Loved the one bedroom apartment. Very spacious. Felt like home away from home. The amenities were a plus. Very big bathroom and the washer was a plus. Located near the ferry. Very quiet at night. Pleasant place to stay.

It was difficult to find. We had to ask residents to help us find the apartment. And the bed was a little uncomfortable. Other than that nothing to complain about

we hoped to come to Varenna to relax and take in the view and that’s exactly what we did.

Varenna was lovely and the flat location was very good. the flat is close to a small local deli good for breakfast and supplies such as wine, milk bread. the view of the lake - which tbh is why you come lovely. you aren’t on the lake front but it’s a lovely view. facilities were good - we couldn’t find tea towels - but we could have asked. all in all no problems.

Location and facilities were all you need to enjoy Varenna. The washing machine is a big plus!

Check in is a bit late in the day, especially when your train brings you in earlier in the day. But aside from that, its a lovely place to stay.

Disappointing stay in a special lake

Good location. Easy check-in process. Spacious apartment.

Apart of the not so comfortable bed, everything was almost perfect until we need to manage the stay with the property owner due to the national transportation strike in Italy on the day of our return flight (and obliged us to come to Milan one day before). She could have just not given any refund or even not replied to the messages, however she was the worst thing we faced in the beautiful and special place that Lake Como is. Not only she was rude with us, but also with the people from Booking who contacted her. She even lied to the girl from Booking saying there wasn't any strike. In the process, she also tried to fool us saying that Booking was the one not allowing her to cancel or refund part of the last night. I do not recommend this apartment to anyone here! Not because of the space, but because of the owner. That's why I am reviewing with a 1. Additionally, as a solution she told us to catch a train right in the morning (7am) even with Trenord assuring us they were not sure about the trains. She just wanted our money, she is not fitted to received guests.

Great location in the beautiful town of Varenna

Perfect location in the beautiful town of Varenna. Apartment was only a few steps away from the water, and also very close to the train station. Quiet at night. Simona was VERY accommodating to us with our early arrival and also allowing us to leave our bags after check-out.

Smaller than expected, no view of the water from apartment. Beds were not the most comfortable. Kitchen was very small. I think the space was split from one apartment into two smaller ones.

This location was brilliant as we walked every where. On arrival if I am totally honest I was a little taken back with the outside appearance but once we opened our door we were thrilled. Our apartment was spotless on arrival. A little thing like having washing machine liquid available was very good.

Because there is no balcony maybe a couple of sun loungers for the common grounds. Also the photos show a pool please let people know it's not on site and comes with a cost.

Location and size of the place was amazing. It was easy to get around by train and bus and using the ferry to visit other villas.

A lovely place to do Varenna your own way.

What a fantastic view from the apartment! Simona is a fantastic host, everything was so well done and prepared for my stay! I was also a little earlier for check in and she was nice enough to let me in! Really easy to get in and out of, so close to the train station and ferry. Views of the water and mountains, beautiful! Washing machine and laundry was also a massive plus!

It’s all there, everything you’d need, but it’s ALL FUNKY. Very Funky. Plus stairs didn’t bother us but there are lots of stairs that you need to carry your luggage up.
