The Shambles - The Timbered Nest

The location was incredible and the view from the skylights was so cool. We really liked the space and really loved being in the center of town and getting to see the shambles both early in the morning and late at night when it was empty. It was great to have a washing machine and an oven making it easier on our littles to have a little bit of their regular day structure.

Sadly we arrived when the UK was having its heat wave and since it is the top room it was very hot. A tower fan was provided which helped but I think I would rather visit at a cooler time of year, or having a second tower fan so there is one in the bedroom and the living space. Or a second doorstop to allow airflow from the multiple skylights. As others have mentioned the street is very noisy with the windows open which we didn't mind but is something to consider if you are a light sleeper or travelling with children.

The location

A great apartment, right in the heart of the Shambles - convenient for the shops - there’s a co op , marks and Spencer etc literally a minute walk from the flat. Wasn’t too noisy considering we are in the heart of York . Accommodation was a good size for myself , partner and two kids ( 6 yr old and 12 year old ) . We really enjoyed our stay and can’t wait to go back to stay here again . We could hear York Cathedral ring its bells on Sunday morning - you have a great view of it out the kitchen / bedroom loft window .

It wasn’t an issue for us but if you have mobility issues / struggle with stairs the attic apartment might not be suited for you ( there’s three flights to navigate before you get to the top)

The location was excellent right on The Shambles

The apartment was roasting when we arrived. The internal doors are all self closing and quite heavy and there was only one door stop so we had to try to prop open the sitting room door to cool the place down. There are too areas where the laminate flooring is in urgent need of repair and could potentially cut your feet if you walked in bare feet. We were only given one set of keys and the door buzz didn't work so we had to go down 3 flights of stairs to let each other in. We booked for 4 people but only one bed was made up. We had to put the duvet cover and pillow cases on for the other bed ourselves. There were no coat hooks to hang our jackets. There was a welcome pack with stuff for tea but no shower gel or shampoo is provided.
