The Wookey Hole Inn

Quirky and homely

All good

SUCH a lovely place to stay. Staff were superb, very attentive and always kind. The food was superb and great portions too. A really lovely bar and lounge downstairs where we had the joy of eating breakfast by the log burner on a crisp Autumn morning. The room was large, warm and essentially peaceful. 5 minutes walk from the caves the scenery is stunning here and easy access for all local attractions. It was a great comfort to retreat to our room for a calm quiet evening. We will be back again. The price was perfect.

There was nothing to dislike here.

Used it as a base for visiting Welks

The Wookey Hole Inn is nothing if not quirky. For example, both our en suite and wardrobe were more or less semi-circular protrusions into the room and the entrance to the shower was a keyhole in a wall within the en suite. However, despite some physical deficiencies (see below), our stay was enjoyable, with a notably comfortable bed, a powerful shower and the best wifi of our 3 week trip, not to mention that the people who run the place were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good.

The property is old and in need of updating. It is, for example, still single glazed and the internal walls allow too much sound transmission. We understand that the 'tatty' stairs carpet is due for renewal shortly but the shower in our room needs re-tiling and there were absolutely no shelves or hooks in our en suite. The bedroom lighting could also have been better and the bed, though extremely comfortable to lie in, is equally uncomfortable to sit up in.
