Never again I am afraid to say, not good value for money

The location was good

The property was very damp, clothes were wet after hanging up over night. Hot tub put of bubbles l, and I only choose this for the hot tub.

Fabulous place

Loved the place...the views were spectacular. Absolutely beautiful what a place. I loved the golf trolley....what a superb idea , 👍 love the dog Ethel...... The host is very welcoming left beautiful cakes ....clotted cream and jam plus beautiful biscuits and milk . Seeing the rabbits playing in the morning is beautiful.....fantastic grounds.....and a spotless caravan . Best place we have stayed in for views .....Absolutely loved it.

A beautiful setting, basic but clean and comfortable accomodation with a hot tub overlooking the bay

Liked everything! Beautiful location, quirky garden, very secluded with a beautiful view. Hot tub was fantastic, Only met the host on arrival, but she was lovely. Daisy May the Golf Buggy was great fun.

Only downside for us was the local pub menu is very sea food heavy - not really our thing. But only a 15 minute walk to Starcross for more traditional pub grub.

Perfect peaceful getaway with an incredible view.

Host, view, garden, nature was incredible, peaceful. Lived with deer, squirrel, rabbits, pheasants, all so close we could just sit and watch. Lovely treats and fresh milk on arrival. Daisy May personal golf buggy. Everything you need to cook any meal you wish very well equipped. Large supermarket 5 mins drive. Pub down the hill by the water. Woodland walk to Dawlish warren, walk to Starcross boat to Exmouth. Hot tub sunrise/sunset.

Absolutely Nothing - just for info - if you can’t walk hills you’ll need to drive everywhere.

Another lovely stay

Another lovely stay at Violet May's Retreat. The view from the deck is amazing. We enjoy watching all the boats come and go as they go about their day, whilst the tide rises and falls. It's a very relaxing place. Very quiet. Plenty of wildlife, rabbits in the day, bats at dusk. No deer on this visit, but we saw them last year. The Anchor pub is excellent for seafood. A short drive to a variety of tourist spots. Host is a lovely lady, couldn't be more friendly and helpful. Nice to have treats like scones with jam and cream, cakes, fresh milk.

Only downside is the size of the bed, but a bigger one couldn't fit in, so nothing can be done to change that.

OUR BEST STAY EVER!!! WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Violet mays retreat is by far one of our best stays ever! Tricia is the most welcoming host you’ll ever meet. I was curious as to why so many people return to her property, and now I know why, it is so beautiful and peaceful, the views are breathtaking. The caravan has everything and more you’ll need for a stay. We stayed for 2 nights and tbh it wasn’t enough, we’re coming back and for longer!!!

Brilliant

We have been twice now and every single time we are sad to leave Tricia is the warmest kindest person and we just love her and Ethel to bits, also the view is amazing especially at night, it's now our favourite place to go and have already booked our 3rd stay

Excellent location and lovely host

Caravan was very clean and tidy. All utensils available and extras. Cakes, jam and cream left for us on arrival. Towels included and hot tub is great with really nice views. Golf cart use to get up the top of the hill.

Only thing I would say is that the hot tub area could do with a shelter for when it's raining. Other than that was brilliant

Tricia is a great host and can't do enough for you. Provided eggs, milk, breakfast cereal and even a Devon cream tea. The hot tub is a plus with a great view and great place to watch the birds and wildlife. This property is a jewel.

Devon hidden gem

We found this little gem last minute and it was a real find. Tricia and Ethel were so friendly and driving daisy nae was an experience. I hope we can revisit one day

Perfect two day getaway. The view from the hot tub was amazing! We spent our nights playing the board games available to us. Supermarket was a short drive away so we could stock up on nibbles and wine. Very relaxing stay. We will definitely return in the future.

Everything is thought of

Tricia, the owner, was in touch beforehand to ensure that everything was smooth when I arrived, and it was. I was so thrilled with the view from the Retreat that I just stood and looked. The cabin was spotless and very well supplied - even the quiz magazine had a pen and pencil. There was a welcome cream tea with a note on heating the scones - and a very generous helping of clotted cream, not like some cream teas! The bedroom was compact but comfortable with good cupboard space, and well equipped with an excellent hairdryer, fan, dehumidifier, heater, iron - and a digital radio. Despite it bring October, the weather was mild enough for me to use the hot tub, which was a perfect temperature and perfect for enjoying the river view. Tricia has also supplied a golf buggy to travel up and down the slope to the Retreat, which was a first for me, but fun and efficient.

I struggled a bit with the clips on the cover of the hot tub, because I have arthritic fingers, but I am pretty sure that Tricia would have helped if I had asked - I managed before I got to that point.

very quiet and relaxing, host was very friendly, chalet was clean, comfortable, and the owner made sure all the creature comforts and essentials were available, down to even supplying an electric buggy to take our stuff to the chalet.

more ornamental pigs around the chalet please and a second electric buggy so when we stay again my wife and i can race around the garden, lol.

We have had two wonderful days here. The mobile home was spotlessly clean with a tasteful decor. We were surrounded by a large garden with lots of funny elements. The extra bonuses of this lovely spot are the beautiful view to the Exe estuary and the golf cart with which you can transport your luggage. We will definitely be back.

A hidden gem with fantastic hosts and superb location.

Location was fantastic - so relaxing with superb views. Felt very private, but the hosts (Tricia and Ethel) were so friendly and always on hand if you needed anything. Violet Mays retreat was cosy and well equipped with everything you needed, including a hot tub! Great communications and fab location. Easy links by train, bus and ferry if you didn't want to drive. Also within walking distance to lovely local pubs and nearby beaches. Hi lights - our hosts, the golf buggy, the welcome basket, the view from the deck, day or night. Highly recommended.
