The house is conveniently located just off of the Main Street of Ferndale, so you can walk everywhere. It is clean, and comes with a full kitchen stocked with dishes, cups, utensils and pots and pans - all the things we needed to cook. It has a lot of interesting old photos and furnishings. Heaters in every room keeps the place nice and warm. We liked the old style phones (one of them actually worked), and record player and old records (although they were mostly classical music so not everyone’s cup of tea). We also liked the claw foot tub but that might not be the best thing for people with mobility issues or those who needed a shower instead of taking a bath.
Despite the bright, cheery pictures in the listing, the house is quite dark even during the day. I think they used pro lighting to take the photos for the listing. The mattresses on both beds were uncomfortable and one of them slopes on both sides so the highest point is in the middle of the bed - it’s like sleeping on an inverted bowl. Perhaps they are trying to simulate how things were back in the old days but honestly, the mattresses should be replaced.
The listing said it has free WiFi “throughout the house,” but on the day of our arrival, we received a message from the property management, Vacasa (more on them later), that the property doesn’t have high speed internet. This should have been clearly noted on the listing, and would have been a deal breaker for us. When we were there, the internet didn’t work all the time.
One note about Vacasa - the company that the host uses to managing the property. After reserving and paying for the reservation through booking.com, we received a read-only email from Vacasa to sign a rental agreement, but the link didn’t work. The email also looked like a scam because it asks you to click on a link and download an app with out much explanation, and at the same time, booking says “hey, be careful about suspicious emails!” There was no one to talk to in order to clarify whether it is legit or not. We had to look up the “contact property” on the original listing on booking.com for the phone number, which then directed us to Vacasa’s number. We were put on long hold (for 20 minutes) and no one ever answered. We had to call back a second time in order to get someone on the phone. They then force you to download the Vacasa app and enter a confirmation code. But the booking confirmation code didn’t work, so we had to call Vacasa again to get Vacasa’s confirmation code, which is different from the booking confirmation. The entire process is unnecessarily complex.

Half a block from Main Street. Spacious living room and kitchen. Useful laundry room. Exceedingly interesting historical records on every surface. Well-stocked vinyl collection and easy-to-use turntable. Very pleasant backyard garden. Plenty of cooking tools. Dining table and brkfst nook.
Bedrooms a bit dark. Unfortunately close to fire hall, hence midnight wake-up when siren went off. An entry-code that was fewer than 10 characters would be easier to remember. Would've loved to have a shower curtain.

The location made everything with walking distance. The house was very clean with old world charm
The heaters did not keep the place as warm as we would like. Also the claw foot tub could use a shower curtain as being we are 71 it can be difficult getting in and out of the tub

The house is amazing.....the history interesting and it is displayed well. It really was a comfortable place to spend a few days.
The garden is really lovely but the outdoor furniture was a little "ricketty". We weren't game to use some of it, seemed like it might be an accident waiting to happen.
