Samostan Mekinje

The rooms were spotless, and the showers hot and powerful. Refreshing after a day out. An easy walk to Kamnik. Place is really quiet and peaceful. Kitchen was clean and tidy.

There are lots of gates and doors to lock and unlock. Apart from that nothing else.

I had a very spacious three-room accommodation, which was great. Wifi was excellent. The location is good for hiking: very accessible by car and I also spotted a bus stop nearby. It is a very scenic location too, with good views. Kamnik center with the supermarket and restaurants is a nice 15 minutes' walk away. My room (on the North side) stayed relatively cool despite the heat wave. There are shared kitchen facilities available (cooking plates, refrigerator, cutlery).

It was less quiet than I expected: there was a group of children (school trip? camp?) staying over the weekend and at some point there were tourist trains entering the monastery during the evening. The shower was bad (hot water took very long and the water did not drain). Lastly, this is a real monastery, not a hotel: there is no air-conditioning, no room service, and people wake up early (6:30).

er is geen gezellige plek om te koken, te eten en te verblijven, er zijn buiten geen goede plekken om comfortabel te zitten of te eten, ondanks de grote binnentuin. Beetje ongezellig en groot. Ook nogal gehorig door de galm, als er mensen over de gangen lopen en praten, of kinderen hollen ;-) , klappende deuren. We hadden wel een fantastisch uitzicht vanuit onze kamer op de bergen. Vanuit Kamnik kan je met de bus het dal verder in voor enkele mooie wandelingen in het berglandschap (weinig open landschap en weinig uitzicht overigens, veel bos)

When we arrived there wasn't anyone, so we called up and the staff told us to wait 45 minutes, beacuse other guests would be arrive later. The absence of the bathroom is a great drawback in a similar, beautiful structure
