A good choice in a busy town.

Easy to find in Main Street. A nice old style hotel with atmosphere. Very comfortable bed and the reading light was great to read in bed. Staff were all very welcoming and helpful, and when I found the doona too heavy to sleep under, one kind man found me a lighter alternative. Food was good and it was worth booking a dinner table in advance as they were a popular pub. Despite being on the main road and above the bar, my room was very quiet.

A lighter blanket alternative in the room would be useful.

Enjoyable 3 night stay in a perfect location close to everything in Aviemore

We enjoyed our stay here and would recommend. The breakfasts were excellent and the pub/service was also superb. The bed was also very comfortable, The location is very good near the centre of Aviemore. Shout out to James who gave very good service at breakfast and to the lady who cooked the breakfast.

The only downside was the size of the room which was a little on the small size but we were just staying for 3 nights and travelling around so had quite a bit of stuff, would be fine for a one or two night stay. A slightly wider time window for breakfast would have been preferred instead of just 8-9am but this was only a minor thing,

Very convenient and good food at the restaurant

It was perfect for a one-night stay. The food from the bar downstairs was very good with a good breakfast too. As this is not a hotel per se but a bar with a number of rooms, we were lucky to be able to drop our luggage until the check-in time so we could go and see the reindeers without our suitcases. When we came back, the staff had already brought the suitcases into our room, I thought this was very kind.

The room was on the smallish side, including the bathroom. But for the one-night we spent there, it was perfect and it looked that it had been renovated not too long ago.

Location, comfort, restaurant, it’s a lovely place to stay. My room was above the busy pub and although you could faintly hear the atmosphere it was not intrusive and after a busy day with my camera I slept like the proverbial log.

I was up and about at 4am to photograph the Osprey finishing around 9 am unfortunately breakfast was served between 8 and 9 so I had to breakfast away from the hotel. This was an inconvenience but overall did not detract from my stay.

Perfect stay for a family occasion

Excellent location Rooms modern with clean bedding comfortable bed and good shower. Good choice for breakfast and staff always welcoming and friendly.

The only slight issue was we felt the bar was really quite noisy in the evening. That said staff appeared to cope well considering how busy it was especially for meals.

A Dream Stay Above a Traditional Bar in the Heart of Aviemore

– Staying here fulfilled a personal dream: sleeping above a bar, just like the old inns of the past. – The location is unbeatable—right in the center of Aviemore, close to a gas station, supermarkets, souvenir shops, and even the visitor information center. – It’s also ideally situated for short getaways into the Cairngorms National Park, whether for hiking, cycling, or visiting nearby lochs. – The rooms are clean, and despite being above a bar, no noise filtered up to the upper floors, making for a restful and comfortable stay. – Breakfast options were varied and among the best we had during our time in Scotland. – Most of all, I want to highlight the outstanding service and friendliness of the entire team—from the manager to the bar and restaurant staff. A special mention goes to the morning breakfast host, whose energy and kindness from the early hours truly made our stay memorable.

We stayed for three nights at the Balavoulin in Aviemore and had a wonderful experience. Our room, Uath, was spotlessly clean with a comfortable bed, a small but pleasantly warm shower, and cozy lighting. Despite the pub downstairs being quite lively, our room was remarkably quiet – we didn’t hear a thing. The staff were exceptionally welcoming and friendly, making us feel right at home. Breakfast was included and truly exceeded expectations, with a great variety of choices from granola to a full Scottish breakfast. We also enjoyed dinner in the pub for three evenings. The menu was varied and enjoyable, and of course, the beer was excellent. Overall, great value for money. The surrounding area is absolutely beautiful – we took a few stunning hikes in Cairngorms National Park, including around Loch Eilein and Meall a’ Bhuachaille, following recommendations from the local tourist office.

Christine was an outstanding employee who helped us check in, settle, and make recommendations for gas, laundry, and entertainment. Also, in the morning, James was outstanding serving breakfast and information.

Overall fantastic, but one minor option would be to have shampoos and soaps in containers in the shower stall.

The room was really warm and it wasn't a warm night. We could hear the noise from the bar but earplugs helped that. The bed was a small double so smaller than we need. TV volume was stuck at a volume we couldn't hear because of the noise of the bar.
