High quality and peaceful cottage in central Winchester

I travelled by train and the cottage is close walk from the railway station and just under 10 minutes walk to the high street. The cottage has been restored and maintained to a high standard. It has an idiosyncratic hat motif throughout the property and the feel of it is that this is your home from home. Excellent WiFi thoughout and the host, Mike, maintained helpful contact before, during and after my short stay. Throughout the property there are helpful laminated notes about the tv (Sky and DVD’s available) the log fire, the lavazza coffee machine and milk frother. The large shower combined steam room is a particular recommended novelty. I was particularly impressed with the provision of coffee pods (there’s also a cafetière) milk, eggs and a bottle of fizz on my arrival, together with whisky in a decanter in the cosy upstairs study. The bedroom is warm and comfortable and there is underfloor heating throughout the cottage. I wasn’t able to use the garden area as much as I’d have liked given the wet weather but it’s well maintained and relaxing to look out on as you enjoy breakfast or another meal. Thanks to the helpful manuals I was able to use the state of the art washer dryer and hob and oven. Exceptionally clean and tidy throughout.

I’ve nothing adverse to say. Any issues I had were relayed to Mike and I know that he’ll take them forward. I’m looking forward to staying again.

Absolutely perfect stay. Highly recommend.

Such a perfect cottage to stay in. Well equipped kitchen with everything you need with lots of extra supplies and goodies to enjoy. Fabulously clean. Very comfortable furnishings and lovely log fire with a wood supply. Very interesting cottage with lots of history. Handy guide book for any questions you may have but the owner was really good with his communications. Great garden area . Within easy walking distance to Winchester city centre. Could not fault this property. Perfect stay.

The location was good and amenities close by. The cottage was beautifully decorated and very well appointed.

Despite the owner providing a parking permit for our stay, parking is a problem in Winchester generally.

A beautiful & very comfortable cottage Our host Mike was a lovely guy & nothing was too much. The cottage was decorated lovely & had some really nice features The garden was a bonus as we were lucky with the weather we did make full use of it. Our last evening there we had dinner outside & with the outdoor lighting it made for an enjoyable & relaxing time The location to the centre was spot on a few minutes walk & you were in the centre of everything Bars Cafes Restaurants Really couldn't want anything more Would highly recommend this cottage.

Lovely and convenient outside London

We spent 10 great nights in this cozy charming row house just an 8 minute walk from Winchester station. Winchester boasts plenty of sights of its own, but we chose Winchester so that we could easily use our railpass to get around to lots of other sights including Portsmouth Dockyards, Arundel, Isle of Wight, Henley, and a short trip South to hike back to Winchester along the Itchen Navigation Trail. London is a 30 minute express train ride away to well connected Waterloo station. The house had a cozy lounge with TV where we could kick back and relax after a hectic day. And the kitchen had everything we needed to cook dinner, or enjoy local take-away including Indian, Chinese, pie, and fishnchips. Sunday we made a champagne brunch and enjoyed the bright airy kitchen and private patio area. The management was helpful, accomodating, and had left us welcoming surprises to enjoy our stay. We took full advantage of the clothes washer and complete instructions were available for all the apartment features. Upstairs was a lovely restful bedroom and a small den suitable for reading, or planning, or napping. Easy walk to excellent pubs. Just a very relaxing and enjoyable stay all around.

A dream holiday home that makes you want to return there and relax in the evening after a day out.

The house is immaculate but also fully equipped and charming. An absolute joy to stay in. Very thoughtful host who left treats and also instructions for everything. Perfect location and with the weather we had a wonderful garden to enjoy too.

location was great as it is walking distance to train station, high street etc. Has good cooking facilities and generous with the coffee pods and fresh milk.

the bed was very uncomfortable. Sofas very uncomfortable too. Bathroom is nice but no where to hang towels or put your toiletries. I was there in summer & hot weather, but the patio furniture was very dirty. Lots of information/ instructions about the property and often contradictory, then final message different again. Keep it simple.

Beautiful quiet haven with easy access to city

In a quiet location within easy reach of the city centre, Hang Your Hat is a beautifully presented haven. Mike has thought of everything you could need and provides comprehensive and thoughtful information about the property and city. We were there on a wet weekend and were warm and cosy. One of the most beautiful places we have stayed in the UK.

Lovely place to stay in Winchester

The location of Mike's property was perfect for us - the narrow street had terraced houses on both sides, but it was really quiet, which is what we both prefer. It was only around ten minutes walk into the city, so didn't need to use our car which we left parked in one of the designated roads (with a permit helpfully supplied by Mike). The shopping in the city is great, with lots of my favourite clothes shops to hand - it's been a long time since we've seen such a busy bustling high street! Shame the Cathedral was closed for graduation ceremonies all week, as I was looking forward to seeing Jane Austen's burial memorial, but it gives us an excuse to go back!

Very homely and comfortable

Bed was very comfortable and everything about it I will say 10/10 if not more. Definitely recommend staying here.

Unfortunately the steamer in the shower had an error code, which was out of order for our trip there which is currently getting repaired soon these things happen. But other than that we had a fantastic stay and will definitely come back again.

A nice stay with lovely weather.

The attentiveness of the host, nothing was too much trouble, excellent customer service. Beautiful garden in a great location and very quiet. Lots of extras not normally provided in other places I have stayed, bathrobes, bathroom products etc which were appreciated.

Lounge area was a bit dark compared to the bright kitchen which was not a problem as I spent almost all of my time in the lovely kitchen when not in the beautiful garden.
