Stone Built Studio Cottage in Maerdy, Near Bala, North Wales - Peaceful Rural Location With Walks and Wildlife From Cottage Door, amazing dark skies for a spot of stargazing.
Comfortable, cosy with underfloor heating and nestling in upland-grazing land at about 1,000 feet elevation, this one-bedroom (one double-bed, sleeping two people) studio cottage has views down the valley and to the mountains beyond. The cottage has panoramic views towards Moel Famau to the north and the Berwyn range to the east and towards the Snowdonia range and Cadair Idris to the west and south. Located at the gateway to the Snowdonia National Park (on the edge of the Hiraethog region) but despite its rural location is closely accessible to the A5 trunk road and only 35 miles from Chester, 13 miles to LLangollen, 9 miles to Bala (with its lake and water sports ) and 18 miles from Betws –y- Coed. There is a local pub (the Goat Inn) within walking distance from the studio cottage and fabulous breakfasts and fine dining (lunchtimes and occasional evenings) at Rhug organic farm a couple of miles down the road .
Ideal for walks from the front door, a glass of wine or just relaxing in front of the wood burner in the conservatory enjoying the views or outside if weather permits; or as a cosy base to come back to after a day of walking or outdoor adventures with nearby Get Wet Adventure Company or White water rafting.

Absolutely stunning location, I'm genuinely so gutted of how short my time was staying here as me and my partner were away most days from the cottage. Tŷ Bach was so clean and tidy, everything you needed was there. The water gets hot in an instant. Access and parking is easy for how rural and "cut off" you'd expect it to be. The main bridge was being fixed during our visit but it was still easy for both me and my partner to get up to it, which Mari kindly let us know about and gave me directions beforehand.Some people would say the wifi isn't the fastest or the TV reception might be patchy at times but that for me is completely expected nor would it bother me when you are in such a beautiful part of the world.Didn't manage to actually meet the hosts nor the donkeys this time around but I definitely will be back again :)Diolch yn fawr

We had the most perfect stay at this beautiful, private cottage! From the moment we arrived, it felt like a peaceful retreat. The cottage was impeccably clean, thoughtfully designed, and equipped with everything I could possibly need. The surroundings were serene, offering complete privacy and a true escape from the hustle and bustle.The cozy interiors, comfortable furnishings, and warm ambiance made it feel like a home away from home. The outdoor space was equally delightful…The hosts were incredibly attentive without being intrusive, ensuring my stay was seamless and stress-free. I can’t recommend this place highly enough and will definitely be returning. If you’re looking for a tranquil, private getaway, this cottage is absolutely perfect!

The cottage is exactly how it looks in the pictures, absolutely stunning views and perfect for our little getaway! Everything you could need for 2 people and with many activities, walks and places to visit nearby. Mari couldnt have been more helpful and the sheep, donkeys and adorable ducks are a great addition. Would absolutely recommend staying here and will definitely be staying again!

I really enjoyed my stay at this property! Very quiet with beautiful views! The only difficulty I had was locating the turn off the A5. It may be helpful to mention to future visitors where the local pub is in relation to where to turn! Not a big issue though!

Tucked away up the hill side allows for great views of the valley and a close up of the local wildlife. A fab location to get out walking, a cosy pub down the lane and a village within a 10 min drive. What more could you want. We will definitely be returning soon.

Fell in love with this cottage as soon as I saw the photos, and we were not disappointed. Charming, comfortable, well equipped, and the views are fantastic. We especially enjoyed the ducks that 'quacked' their way by to the pond. And can't forget the donkeys - very friendly. We would love to return again and again.

Loved my stay here. The road up was a bit steep, but the car was small and still made it up, I would suggest going when it’s light though. From the moment we entered the cottage it was lovely. There was a little gift waiting for us including some crisps, chocolate, cider, and a beautiful cake, all local products which was fab. The room was clean and had a cupboard, good sized shower. The best part of it all was the incredible view of the sunrise, full of the sounds of birds, animals walking past and ducks casually saying hello. I can’t wait for my next stay here.

Me and my partner had a wonderful few nights here. The property was very clean and we loved the beautiful surroundings. The only thing we would say is that if you're used to a soft mattress, you'll need to bring a mattress topper or as the mattress was quite hard and i found it difficult to sleep on. However, the overall experience was wonderful and i definitely would recomend!

We would highly recommend this property for a break. It's set in lovely surroundings the cottage itself is beautiful with an outside decking area lovely to sit out and eat breakfast or enjoy a glass of wine in the evening.. you will have 4 little visitors throughout the day they're the ducks. I who are lovely. The donkeys are wonderful too. Overall there isn't anything negative to say about our stay there. We would definitely go back again. Mari the host is lovely and left a lovely welcome gift. We really enjoyed our couple of days just what we needed

The location is absolutely idyllic, the perfect bolthole to escape to with a view that kept drawing me in and an atmosphere that gently massaged all my troubles away, a place to reflect and rediscover myself surrounded by only the bucolic bleating, tweeting and bellowing of animals. It is small, but almost perfectly formed with the emphasis being on making me comfortable, with a uniquely Welsh embracing "cwtsh" We wanted for nothing, making our stay very easy. I don't understand how people complained about access - Yes it's steep, untarmacked and bumpy, but that's all part and parcel of life in the country, the peace, the tranquility and the beauty that is "Ty Bach". Mari, is the perfect host, friendly, inviting and helpful and, had they not been our close neighbour, we would not have known they were there. We are really grateful that we found "Ty Bach" to work through a very difficult, trying and emotional time in our lives. Even the stars came out to shine down on us and the moon hung low in the sky to light our way.

Beautiful small bungalow for 2 people enjoying a peaceful short stay. Mari @ Mike are wonderful hosts and nothing too much trouble. The ducks came to see us and knocked on the conservatory door for titbits which we found charming. , along with sheep, cows, squirrels and baby rabbits. It truly was paradise.Lots of lovely places to eat within a short distance and TheGoat pub just at the bottom of the lane provided us with the best scampi we have had in a long time. Home made ice cream in Bala was delicious. The lane to the cottage was a little steep, and there is a narrow stone bridge but take care, drive slowly and it was perfect for us.

We have really enjoyed our stay in this little gem of a cottage. The pictures on here really dont so it justice! The cottage was lovely and clean, had everything we needed, including some lovely touches like a welcome basket of local food and drink, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner etc. Mari and Mike are lovely hosts and we really enjoyed our chat and their recommendations for the local area. We spent many hours just chilling out at the cottage, watching g the Kites and other birds. The local area has something for everyone, with walks from the doorstep. Cant wait to return. Thank you so much for such a lovely place to stay.
