Great little cottage for a fossiling trip with the kids

Great little cottage, perfect for a little fossiling trip with my two kids. Separate bedrooms for everyone. Great living room. Decent kitchen, dining room, bathroom. Lovely welcome pack of Dorset goodies. Handy location for a quick walk to The George pub (sadly closing from Nov 2025 to Mar 2026 due to lack of winter trade). Main road location wasn't as noisy as it could've been. Loads of games which the kids enjoyed. Good big telly, easy to use. Comfy beds.

Didn't find any instructions for heating, and couldn't get the thermostat to make the boiler kick in and warm up the place when we needed to. The heating was pre-set, often for times we weren't in the house. Sadly the cleaning wasn't great in the kitchen. The plastic chopping boards were sticky and mouldy, and the cheese grater had not been cleaned properly before returning to the cupboard. Weirdly there was a little 'cleaning pack' on arrival, which seemed a good idea, but the little tube of washing up liquid ran out during our stay. Also, why does it contain dishwasher tabs when there is no dishwasher? Washing machine capsules would've been more welcome. I guess it's a general S y kes Cottages thing. Btw, I scrubbed the chopping boards and grater as best I could, but had run out of washing up liquid by that point. We met a stand-in cleaner on departure who was lovely, and I am sure she would've done a more thorough job.

Lovely little cottage for a family to enjoy a fantastic getaway.

Comfortable spacious cottage, quiet location, only a short walk to local shop and places to eat, had everything you needed including family games etc and excellent welcome pack.

The odd woodlouse seen around the house in living room, dining room and top of stairs and cobwebs in oven door.

We had a great family half term holiday, the delights of Charmouth never fail.

Great location within walking distance of village and beach. Warm and cosy with everything we needed. Handy parking and outdoor space.

Double bed wasn't as comfortable as it could have been. Slight lack of attention to detail like scaled up kettle was a shame. Similarly, dripping toilet cistern hadn't been spotted (but fair play to Lyme Bay who fixed it immediately). Could have been a bit cleaner on arrival (suspect the previous guests had a white dog!)
