Hôtel France et Chateaubriand

The staff are excellent and our room overlooking the sea was stylish and smart, though it was quite small. The outstanding thing was the brasserie which serves really excellent food.

Beautiful and cute hotel at a magnificent location in the walled city centre, right next to the sea. From the second and third floor rooms, beautiful view over the sea and the fortresses. The restaurant, breakfast rooms, hallways and rooms are all oldschool and beautifully decorated. Bed is comfy, room amenities are basic but good.

No ventilation provisions/climate control. There was a heat wave the week before our arrival and the heat was still very much present in the whole hotel and room, even when leaving the window open alle day. We had to choose between sleeping with the window open (and waking up because of noise) or sleeping in the heat.

Good room for us and the dogs. Great restaurant and food. Perfect for a morning ferry crossing

The hotel and room was really nice. The hotel was beautifully decorated and steeped in history. Loads of bars and restaurants on the door step. Staff were lovely. The bar and restaurant for the hotel are really nice and the staff are super attentive. The hotel welcomed our doggo and she also came down to breakfast with us. The bed was massive and very comfy. Bathroom was well equipped with a good shower. Breakfast was good with loads of choice in an awesome room. Lots of car parking in the local area. We used the underground one which was awesome.

On arrival we weren't informed that there was no air conditioning. Outside temp was in the 30's. We went to our room which overlooked the front square, which was very busy. When we turned the air con on for the room it didn't operate and came up with a fault code. After raising the issue with reception we were told that there was no air con in the hotel at present. As we had no air conditioning we had to open the room windows which opened onto the noisy main square. The room was boiling and the noise from the square didn't subside until 2.30-ish in the morning. It wasn't a pleasant night.
