very mediocre!
The mountains were beautiful!
The staff was unfriendly, and the unloading and parking were terrible! You have to drag everything up and down the stairs. It was very noisy both in the rooms and in the hotel as a whole. Slippers were not provided, which significantly reduced the quality of your stay!

Beautiful, historic hotel in the center of the city.
Beautiful hotel with great food, helpful staff, and great scenery.

The hotel is old, but clean. Avoid the staff, they will ruin your mood and won't help.
The location is very very good, as Bad Gastein is sat on a bunch of very steep hill. This hotel is pretty much at the top of the hill which makes life significantly easier. I booked a massage and it was to a high standard.
The staff is TERRIBBLE. Restaurant staff, bar staff, reception staff. They are very rude and very unwilling to talk, extremely unapproachable. For example, I asked a reception lady: "what is the price of dinner?" (as dinners come as a set menu and price is not mentioned anywhere) at which she looked at me and said: "what do you mean "what is the price of dinner"?". So I asked again, and eventually she told me that the price depends whether you book dinners in bulk or one at a time. Plenty of strange encounters like that. Bar staff ignored us for about 20 minutes, and eventually I had to go and fetch them, only to be given a gone sour mulled wine. Even when arriving to the hotel, when I came to check in, the guy at the desk was incredibly unhappy to see me, and just said: fill the paper. That's all the greeting I got. The only staff in the hotel who was lovely was a massus and the cleaning ladies. I've never had an issue like that anywhere else outside the hotel, as local people are extremely friendly.

Excellent hotel
Breakfast excellent, good choice of food. Very good facilities, pool and spa. Excellent location. Bar was well staffed and with good atmosphere. Room very comfortable, although too hot even with heating turned off.
Staff, cleaning and reception, could have been better. Did not offer Gastein savings card and the cleaner destroyed our headphones with her hoover with no apology.

Disappointed. The reception staff, however, were vey helpful and made us feel like valued guests.
The breakfast was good. As we were only booked in for breakfast we were not allocated a table number and had to be seated on restaurant request.
We felt we were a hinderance rather than a guest. We were told at reception and in the restaurant on our first night that we didn’t need to book for an evening meal: however we were questioned quite unexpectedly one evening and kept waiting for some considerable time before we were seated! New Year’s Eve we were not asked if we wanted to join so we booked elsewhere:, however on returning we were told we couldn’t even get a drink as it was only for the diners even though we were staying in the hotel. NOT HAPPY.

Excellent place to stay close to the railway station
We had a lovely room with a balcony towards the inner yard. The hotel was clean and beautifully old fashioned, breakfast was good, the staff was great and very helpful. The sauna was very good for a hotel sauna! The pool area was lovely, especially the small hot pool with views to mountains. It was excellent that there was an opportunity to use that area also on the day we left, this allowed us to have one more hiking day and after that a moment to relax in sauna and take a shower before catching the evening train. The location was great for us, as it's close to the train station, bus stop, spa and a couple of restaurants that were open until late even in summer.
Nothing that the hotel could really help, but it is a big hotel hosting both independent travelers and big groups, so one needs to accept that restaurant/sauna-area can be crowded from time to time and not everyone is always doing great in taking other guests into account in their behavior.

Reasonably priced, but a bit dated and targeting Swedish families.
We stayed as part of our honeymoon, as we had heard a lot of good things about the Salzburger Hof. The hotel had a classical and timeless style of decoration, and we were greeted with a lovely welcoming as we arrived. The hotel was clean, and our room had a wonderful view. It was also very reasonably priced.
Perhaps our expectations were set a bit too high, but we were sadly a bit disappointed with our stay, for several reasons listed below: - The hotel felt more like a family resort than a luxury hotel. As a couple we felt out of place, as we came to realize that most guests were Swedish families with young children who had apparently booked a group trip with the Swedish company that owns the hotel. There were a lot of kids running around in the restaurant, so it was not a very ”romantic” honeymoon stay. Sometimes it felt like we were staying at an All Inclusive resort in Greece or Turkey. The dinner was ”just OK”. - Rooms are a bit dated. Last renovation was in 2008, so carpets look a bit worn, as do the tiles in the bathroom etc. - Some members of the staff in the restaurant were very young and seemed to lack proper training, which was a bit unexpected for a hotel that classifies itself as ”De luxe”.
