Location - in the same village where my parents live.
Unfortunately when we arrived we saw that the main building was surrounded by scaffolding and skips blocking all access by vehicle. Builders working on site. Roof being redone - old roof tiles being removed down a shoot into skip (very noisy) and new ones being replaced. Told after arriving by the owner that this was out of their control as workman had arrived a week early. However as my parents live in the village they can confirm scaffolding had been up for weeks. My parents were unaware at the time that this was where our property was located.

We loved staying in this beautiful cottage.
The cottage was lovely, and the location perfect for day trips around the North Yorkshire Moors and the coast. There were a large number of sites to see in the area -- especially castles!
The fridge was a bit too small for us, and we would have appreciated having a washer-drier, because it took three days for our clothes to hang dry. Otherwise, it was perfect.

Cosy cottage in a pretty village close to Pickering and Helmsley
Immaculate and cosy little cottage in a pretty, quiet village a very short drive from Pickering. Perfect amount of space for a couple, and really well equipped with a good shower, spacious kitchen and living room, and comfy bed. Great base for walks, castles, abbeys and the North York Moors railway. The owners were friendly and welcoming and the Covid safety measures were rigorous without feeling intrusive.
Be aware you need a car to get the most out of the location (if you're on public transport you'll be better off staying in a bigger town) - but with a car the location is perfect, close to the A road without being noisy. The parking space for this cottage is also a bit narrow, and on a slope - but the owners very kindly helped us find a workaround, so don't let this put you off if you have a bigger car or are slightly inept at parking like we were!
