Chambres d'hotes du Port Gautier

Perfect for a no-frills overnight stop or weekend getaway. As with all traditional chambres d'hote, guests take their meals together around communal tables, eating the same dishes (ie. no menu choices). We expected this so no surprises. The 3-course dinner, served at 7:20pm, was home-style cooking, very tasty, prepared and presented with care. A small choice of inexpensive wines by the bottle was perfect for the setting (a few soft-drink options were also available). Breakfast was basic but satisfying, with fresh bread, butter and home-made jams plus yoghurt, granola and a few pastries. We had the 5-person family room: double bed in one space with en-suite bathroom and connecting door to the (3x) single-bed space. Bathroom fittings were clean and modern with storage. Windows were easy to slide open for air. There is a spacious communal sitting and dining area on the lower floor with board games etc. There is also a guest laundry room which we did not use. The two staff we spoke to were friendly and helpful but are generally absent. We were able to check in earlier than the specified 5pm and leaving at 11am was useful since we wanted a relaxed start to the final day of our holiday.

Bedroom storage space in the 5-person family room is limited, especially if staying more than a night or two. The biggest downside however (and easily rectified) was a lack of refreshments outside meal times. There is no coffee/tea making facility or fridge in the family room (though included on the booking website) and none in the communal area. Arriving after a day's drive, a coffee maker, kettle and chilled water would be welcome additions (perhaps downstairs since bedroom space is constrained).

Traditional French, family orientated hotel. V welcoming. Private carpark. Adjacent to cycle route. Quite and peaceful. Great stopover. Would return and spend longer.

Tea / coffee facility on room would be a great bonus

The owner was welcoming and made us a lovely meal. The garden was lovely too.

The bedroom was a bit basic; it was particularly hot weather and we couldn’t get fresh air into the bathroom.
