Winterfell Hakuba

Very cosy and warm, amazing views from the balcony and dining area.

The hosts were very helpful in shuttling us to the ski resorts and bus terminal. Our room was spacious and there was space for everything. I really appreciate towel and coat racks. The drying room was very spacious. Free coffee in the morning was great.

Accommodation not reachable by bus so a bit difficult to get around. Hosts tried to accommodate with free shuttles.

We were a group of 7 friends travelling together, and we all agreed Winterfell was the best accomodation we stayed at during our time in Japan. Winterfell has a lovely cozy atmosphere that compliments the routine of skiing: we could enjoy the privacy of our bedroom (we managed to squeeze 7 people in), and also enjoy the shared kitchen/ living spaces downstairs where we could chat with other guests. Our host, Kate, was amazing at providing recommendations on which mountains we could try each day and the shuttle buses available- which we were super appreciative of, as we hadn't skied in Japan before. The nearest bus terminal where all the buses pick you up for skiing wasn't walking distance but a very short drive. Kate would arrange for the Winterfell shuttle to drop us off/pick us up from the bus terminal, or sometimes go out of her way to drop us directly to the mountains, which was amazing.

Winterfell didn't have a lot of dinner options within walking distance which limited how spontaneous we could be with food, however so long as we planned in advance, our host would provide a lift into town, which we were super grateful for. Also, the private bathroom was very small, but that was also because there were 7 of us! Bathroom was very clean, and there were shared toilets downstairs we could use.
