Grand Hotel de Londres

We have stayed at the Grand Hotel de Londres on past trips to Istanbul. Built in 1892, it still retains the feeling and grandeur of that period (although fairly faded). The rooms are old and funky but where else can you get a large overly ornate room with a view of the Golden Horn for a little over a hundred bucks. We stayed in room 301 this time. The bar downstairs is small but classic and Ilhan, the bartender, is an instition and very pleasant. The basic breakfast buffet is included and the view from the rooftop terrace is quite nice. We will be staying here again when passing through.

Because of the hotel's original opulent interior, it has beome a destination for post-wedding couples photography. Throughout the day couple after couple, with photographers and assistants, proceed through the hotel and to various photogenic spots. It is not really an issue, and very entertaing, but sometimes there is a slight delay on the staircase or at the bar.

Beautiful traditional old hotel in Beyoğlu with a great roof terrace and very nice employees

The state of preservation could be much better, e.g. bath rooms. The WLAN speed feels like from 2005. The breakfast was not of good quality so we skipped it from day 2 onwards

The location is very good if you don't mind a little walking to things like the Galata Bridge, Ayasofia and Sultanahmet (30-45 minutes) or an inexpensive taxi ride. It's up on a hill with a nice view over the Golden Horn, especially from the delightful roof terrace/bar. There is a terrific, charming restaurant right around the corner (Ficcin). The room and bed were comfortable and the staff are friendly and helpful. The decor is a bit worn but clean. Nice hot shower too, which is important for me. I've stayed here a few times now over the decades whenever in Istanbul and will continue to do so.

The fan base was broken so I had to prop it up to have it pointed in the right direction.

I’m The location is great and the breakfast was OK.

Very poor wifi in my room, although it's OK in the hotel lobby. The hotel is situated near a night club and it was very noisy till the early morning hours.
