Located at upper elevation with easy access to backcountry and nearby ski areas Tsubame Highland Lodge makes an excellent base from which to explore the region. The owners John and Helen were most gracious and accommodating, providing wonderfully cooked meals and sake, help with transportation and car troubles; a truly enjoyable visit.
As an older property, it can be colder at times.

自然の中で日常を忘れてゆったり過ごせました。オーナーがイギリスの方でしたが、精一杯日本語で温かく対応していただきました。雨に降られた妙高・火打山登山でしたが、燕温泉で疲れを癒すことができました。送迎もしていただき助かりました。夕食・朝食ともに美味しくいただきました。鮭の切り身の大きさにびっくり！ごちそうでした！装飾品も見事なものがあって…何度も見入りました。歴史を感じるロッジです。
建物・設備が古いのですが、オーナーのお話では、部屋は来年、洋式にリニューアルされるそうです。

The hospitality of the host and staff was fabulous. John, Gabriella and James were very helpful and accommodating. The breakfast and dinner meals were excellent. The location was fabulous with amazing snowy views and quick access to several ski options. The rooms were very large and we enjoyed the lounge to relax and play card games. The onsen was very relaxing and helpful for sore muscles after a day on the slopes.
The lodge did show its age, but it was clean, comfortable and I look forward to visiting in the future after updates are complete.
