Manoir les Quatre Etoiles, Sainte Mère Eglise

Der ehemalige Gutshof liegt in einem winzigen Dörfchen in der Nähe von Sainte-Mere-Eglise. Sehr ruhig. Praktisch kein Autoverkehr. Wir waren in dem alten Gebäudeteil untergebracht. Zu den Zimmern führt gebäudebedingt eine recht steileTreppe. Die Zimmer selbst sind stilvoll eingerichtet. Der alte Salon des Herrenhauses im Erdgeschoss bietet eine tolle Optik und dient gleichzeitig als Aufenthaltsraum (Wasserkocher, Kaffeemaschine und Kühlschrank mit Getränken vorhanden). Das Frühstück ist regional, mit diversen selbstgemachten Konfitüren, sowie Käse und Joghurt von benachbarten Höfen. Parkplätze in ausreichender Zahl direkt im Hof. Die jungen Besitzer sind sehr nett. Wir sprechen zwar nur wenige Brocken französich, aber damit und ein wenig englisch, konnten wir uns ausreichend verständigen. Wenige Fahrminuten nach Sainte-Mere-Eglise(Einkaufsmöglichkeiten) und den Stränden am Utah Beach. Neben den historischen Mahnmalen und Erinnerungsstätten ist er aber auch ein guter Badestrand. Sowohl die Städte Bayeux und Caen, als auch die beeindruckenden Steilküsten im Nordwesten sowie Mont-Saint-Michel sind mit Tagesausflügen gut erreichbar.

This was our base for exploring the D-Day beaches and Normandy, just outside St-Mére-Eglise. The roads leading to the little farm are narrow and winding, it is an experience. There is free parking inside the gate, enough for all the guests. The house itself is beautiful, something out of a movie. It has a little garden, free parking, play area for bigger kids. My kids loved the cows next door. The apartment we rented was I think in a converted barn on the right side, which was fully renovated and modernized, the ground floor of it was the common room for breakfast. The house on the left houses a community area on the ground floor, with a full piano and other interesting bits and pieces. I especially liked all the posters of the D-Day anniversaries (82nd this year) It also had other apartments on the upper floors and I think the owner lived there as well. Our room was in the former barn as I said, entrance through a stair from the breakfast room, first floor entry point, but the rooms were on the 2nd floor, only the bathroom was on the first floor along with a small room and the stairs going up. The rooms above were huge, parents in one room, which could house 6 people easily, and the kids in the other room. Breakfast was tasty local produce, cheese, milk, croissant, baguette of course. There was no meat though, which was strange, but we bought some the next day. The owner was kind, although we had some problem communicating, due to my bad French and her bad English, but we managed :) Every evening I made a stroll around the peaceful village of Turqueville, looked at the church at the end of the road, the cows and horses (my daughter's favourites), the little library in the bus stop, the cemeterey around the church. It was one of the most peaceful and tranquil places I have ever been to. Will come back!

No meat for breakfast was strange for me. Very short timeframe to check-in in the middle of the afternoon, I think it was one hour only between 16:00-17:00. I actually had to leave the family behind in St-Mére-Eglise, go to Turqueville to check-in, then go back. I understand if the owner is busy, but check-in should be digitalised or a key lock made available, if noone is there to meet us. Everything else was perfect.
