Hotel Waldrand

A beautiful historic hotel in a stunning location. Perfect for hikers on the Via Alpina. The girls in the restaurant are incredibly friendly and helpful. They really deserve a compliment!

Ein außergewöhnlich schöner Ort im spketakulär schönen und ursprünglich gebliebenen Kiental. Ein Haus mit unvergleichlichem Charme, Flair und Stil. Ein historisches Haus, das freilich nicht jeden Komfort bieten kann, aber dessen Einfachheit seine Besonderheit mitprägt.

Hotel Waltrand was reached after a hard day's hike across the mountain pass from Murren. It is over one hundred years old and has a lot of character. Decor is basic mountain rustic, but the rooms, bedding and bathrooms are spotless. The communal bathroom I used, I am certain actually had a heated tile floor in order to keep it dry. The dinner and desert were great and the ''lunchbox'' prepared for the next day hike was appreciated as around the hotel and in nearby Griesalp, I did not sight a store. This hotel is exactly what I was looking for during my 6 day Bernese Oberland traverse. Small details like the flower posy in the room and hotel label pottle of jam, were appreciated.

If the owner is reading this, perhaps in the future they could welcome the guests too. An extra sign post for hikers from Murren would be a good idea.

it’s age - everything creaks (wooden floors etc) and l light filters through the wood slats (ceiling included) only 2 showers which didn’t drain and 2 loos
