A very charming hotel with a warm, welcoming atmosphere and exceptionally friendly staff. My room was comfortable and clean, and the location near the beach makes it a perfect relaxing getaway. Go for it

“fair usage of stairs” means you may need to carry your suitcase up and down, which can be challenging with heavier luggage. It’s worth considering this in advance if mobility or the weight of bags could be an issue.

Relaxing stay

Lovely hotel and so close to the beautiful beach. Staff were very helpful. Lots of different areas to sit and read and relax with (or without) a drink. My room was a good size double and very comfortable. Treated myself to the “Posh Fish and Chips” for dinner - was the best fish I have had this holiday. Unfortunately only there one night on my way to Arran.

We had a lovely stay shout out to young boy who booked us in couldn’t do enough for us even supplied a brolly ( we handed it back in ) my only moan which isn’t anything to do with hotel it was bit far for me to walk into town centre x wasn’t far but my mobility isn’t the best breakfast lovely very quick service girl serving was adorable xx

We were made to feel welcome and there was a good atmosphere in the hotel. We also arrived early and were given access to our room.

The rooms were a little tired and in need of an upgrade and the shower was really poor and dated also. Breakfast wasn't great either as sausages were barely cooked.

A lovely Hotel. I'm happy to come back.

The hotel is well located and in a quiet area, close to the beach. The staff was lovely and helpful at all times. Breakfast was very good. Good quality products. We didn't have the opportunity to eat dinner at the restaurant but the menu looked good.

It is a small detail. The space between the toilet and wall was minimal, and it was awkward to sit properly to use the facility.

A very good stay, and one which will no doubt be repeated in the future.

Online check-in made it straightforward when we arrived. All staff we came in contact with were very friendly and helpful. The room we were given was a good size, and including the bathroom very clean. Beds were comfortable and the hotel overall appeared well maintained and was comfortably warm in both the room and public areas. We had both an evening meal and breakfast in the hotel and were both well presented and good value.

Some of the furniture in the bar areas whilst being very comfortable was a little tired looking. Other than that, nothing immediately springs to mind.

Adequate for our one night stay

We liked the attitude of the staff, friendly and helpful. We had been allocated a room up 4 flights of stairs, which we struggled with. However she found a room on the floor below which was much easier. We needed a room with a walk in shower. The receptionist helped us with our suitcases,

There is no lift. The breakfast menu was boring, just the basics. The general ambience is very dated. Disappointed that the hotel does not have a beach view.

Enjoyed our stay, and excellent base for the ferry to Arran.

Staff were all approachable, knowledgeable and reliable. For the golfers, there’s a lot of history in the hotel.

Great place, but a bit pricy.

Location is excellent (few mins to the beach and from the train station), staff is very friendly, rooms are big and homey. I overall had a very lovely stay! Only downside was, that it was quite pricy.

The restaurant was a bit disappointing, mainly deep-fried pub-food and when I ordered the fajitas they arrived untoasted with "guacamole" that came clearly from a jar. The backyard is lovely though and to wind down in the evening with a drink it is great. :-)

The hotel is old school, and like a thousand others - what makes it soecial are the staff - I will return.

Due to CalMac’s revised timetables, my carefully planned rail and ferry journeys failed ti connect - meaning I’d stayed at South Beach on my outward journey (to Arran) just three weeks before, and left positive feedback accordingly. Hence it was the obvious choice for ny return.

Would not recommend ...hated my stay there

Location was great. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Brochure inside room says all rooms have free WiFi which is incorrect as I didn't. No WiFi at all in my room had to sit in reception which I didn't like. Bathroom blind was broken so couldn't block out neon light shining in disturbing my sleep. Mattress was very soft with central dip. Furniture was stained / dirty.

Overpriced and has below standard facilities

When we arrived we went for lunch the food was very good and tasty the parking was easy and free the selection of drinks was good also the breakfast tasted good but there was a few issues. The room was clean

There was no WiFi I had to use my data to watch my firestick and to do some business work. When im paying over £200 for an overnight stay the minimum you’d expect in this day and age was working WiFi. We complained early in our stay but the staff poo pooed us and didn’t offer any form of compensation. We booked into the premium room with a sea view, the room was old fashioned and a little tired and it had a small 32 inch tv which in such a large room was barely visible from the bed. The bar was left unattended a couple of times. The breakfast was a bit of a mess too, we were given toast with no butter and tea with no milk I twice had to get out my seat to ask for milk and butter, there was no beans option either which was bizarre and standard for a full breakfast.

Disappointing - But Great View & Right on Beach Fronts

Old style beach resort. Great location & views from the room were fabulous. Right on the beach front. 10 minute walk into town centre. Ferry port to Arran also nearby.

Being overcharged (refunded), then learning that I'd been charged a higher single occupancy rate than was normal when the cost for a worn, dated & run-down hotel (in need of some TLC) was expensive (no refund for that). Given a rate for a 3rd night, which was higher than It was advertised for online (so didn't stay extra night) also wasn't impressive. It was clean & comfortable, my room was nicely decorated, but with wear & tear signs, small holes & peeling paint in some places. When I ate in the hotel on my last night, 1 part of order didn't come, & prawns were raw (dangerous). Manager was quite short with me but agreed to no charge for it. When checking out, they tried to charge me for the drink with that order which I found incredibly cheeky. More of a masculine, golfing focused hotel & not really suitable for those with mobility issues (I have some, but I am still moderately mobile & struggled with the stairs, but that beach & sea view from the room was worth it) or disabled as there are no lifts. My room was feminine & comfortable. Nicely decorated, but dated. Staff mostly friendly & helpful, but also prone to being stressed & and abrupt, which slightly tainted the relaxed sea calming atmosphere (management issues?). As a solo female traveller, it seemed that groups & couples received better treatment. Would I go back there? To Troon, certainly, for a lovely day at the beach. Locals were friendly & helpful. But the hotel would need to be refurbished & have better service. The price charged was way too high for what it was. Worth about £60-90 per night. I like old hotels, but this was a bit run down.
