Rigas Hotel Skopelos by GHH

Location within easy walking distance for Skopelos port and old town. Reception staff weee fantastic and very helpful with restaurant booking and travel advice.

The bar and pool area were disappointing. The pool area decking etc was in need of some maintenance. The bar was very poor, no drinks menus available, no wine options. Staff spent most of the time sitting round chatting not bothering to clear up glasses from around the pool area.

The rooms were new, renovated, and very clean. Housekeeping came every day. The location of the accommodation is ideal, close to the port where the ferry arrives and near the town center. The breakfast was solid—more or less the same every day, but still varied enough not to become boring quickly. The pool is nice, but the artificial grass around it gives a slightly cheap impression. However, we didn’t swim because the pool closes at 6, and we spent the days at the beach. All the people working at the hotel were super nice. The hotel garden and plants were beautiful, as well as the place intended for breakfast and meals.

What we didn’t like is that although it is stated that parking is available nearby, it was quite difficult to find a parking spot in practice. We were told to park anywhere on the street as long as we didn’t block any doors, but very often all the nearby street parking spaces were taken—even though it was off-season. I can only imagine how it is during peak season. There is paid parking near. The room is compact but enough for two people, but there is not enough storage space for clothes, only a few hangers and that’s it. We folded and kept our clothes on the third extra bed that is in the room. Maybe clothing storage could be solved in a better way. The most important issue we didn’t like was that we had moldy pillows. At first, we thought the pillowcases were damp and hadn’t dried properly so they got moldy, so we waited, expecting housekeeping to change them and bring us fresh ones. However, since the smell persisted, we removed the pillowcases and realized that the pillows themselves were moldy. We asked the cleaners for replacements and received new ones quickly.

The hotel is in a great location, only 5 to 10 minutes from the Port. The staff were accommodating and helpful.

I was put in a room at the back of the property which was very old, very dated and obviously hadn’t had work done to it for a while. The bathroom had limescale and was mouldy. The shower didn’t have a handle so I had to hold the shower head when I washed. This also meant water from the shower went through the tiles and into the bedroom, covering the floor in water and covering the exposed cables of the fridge. The fridge was randomly exposed and not in the cupboard as it should be, meaning it created a hazard when the water leaked from the bathroom as the water was next to the plug socket of the fridge. There was no storage, no cupboards or drawers in the room and, despite having a huge wardrobe, there were no hangers inside. I didn’t say anything as I was only there for a few days but found it odd I’d even have to ask for hangers in a double room with a double wardrobe. There was also no cups or glasses and no kettle in the room which, again, for a 3* star property I’d have expected. Overall really disappointing for a 3* hotel, especially as I had to pay for a two people room being a solo-traveller. I’d recommend they completely redecorate those rooms or at least give them some TLC.
