An absolute gem for those looking to go off the tourist trail and find some real peace and solitude. Speaking Spanish is essential here but the hosts are so lovely you'll have a great time in any case. The island is quiet, pedestrianised and has two tiny shops. Excellent for slowing down and appreciating what Titicaca has to offer. The food is simple but delicious (not included in the Booking price). The hikes to Pachamama and Pachatata are fantastic and Henry even accompanied us the entire way. I would recommend staying two nights to really get the most out of the island. The final morning we were taught how to make the local bracelets and even made some ourselves as well as dress up in the local outfits for a quick photoshoot. Most of the rooms have excellent views of the lake and have their own bathroom with solar heated hot water (in the afternoons).
The only way to reach the island is via one of the tourist boat trips which take a while and requires a visit to the touristy Uros floating reed islands where you will be forced to buy souvenirs. Once you arrive at Amantani you have a steep hike up with your luggage to Henry's so beware if you have suitcases. The rooms have no indoor heating so pack for the cold as at night it can be near freezing. The island has spotty internet and the rooms don't come with any wifi. Also there are no ATMs on the island so make sure you have all the cash you need before you arrive such as for paying for your meals.

We loved how welcoming Mariluz, Henry and their son Rudy were. We had the wonderful opportunity to get to know them during meal times and all the activities they shared with us (hiking, weaving, etc). The food itself was so fresh, varied and delicious. We had a very relaxing time on the island and would not hesitate to recommend this experience to anyone going to Peru. Make sure to stay for at least two nights to be able to fully relax and enjoy. Do be ready for cold evenings but the warm blankets and hot water bottle provided made the sleep so cozy. This is a truly special opportunity to learn about life on Amantaní - we will never forget it.
