Winter closure of the open-air baths "Shirakaba-no-yu" (Late December - 28 February)
Due to the accumulation of snow, the open-air bath will be closed during the winter. Until it reopens, you will only be able to use the indoor baths.

Very comfy room and great food. Staff are very accommodating and kind. Great outdoor onsen.
They have some construction going on at the moment and that can be annoying if you open the window.

The design and size of the room, it is very spacious and well layout, Location is very convinient if Zao mountain is your main objective, I would be backed just for the room.
The food is really disappointing. It is not typical Ryokan standard but more like a 3 stars hotel standard in a city. The main advantage is that the breakfast is a buffet which gave you a little more flexibility instead of the standard japanese breakfast which usually just lots of small pickled dishes and one tiny fish with lots of rice. I would skip the meal if not for the convinient of eating in the hotel. We booked a room for 3, with such a big room, I would expect a proper extra bed. Instead it was just a narrow sofa bed.

Breakfast was buffet, pretty good. Variety was good.
Hot water supply from the tap took a long time, and the staff was not able to resolve it. Had to run the shower head for many minutes before the hot water came.
