It's quite the uphill climb from nearby Kloof Street to the hotel, but once you get there, it's paradise.

Gorgeous boutique hotel

What a lovely place to say! The hotel itself is gorgeous - stunning pool, very comfortable lounge area, beautiful decor. The staff are extremely helpful, friendly and relaxed. What makes it so special is all the little touches - sunscreen, afternoon tea, daily note. Would come back any time.

The room doesn't have a fridge, if that's something that bothers you, but given they give unlimited water and an honesty bar, it's not really a problem.

Perfection

Derwent House was absolutely phenomenal. The staff, the room and the care and attention to detail were way above average. We have travelled extensively around the world, and Derwent House is the best place that we have ever stayed. I cannot praise the staff enough, everyone from front of house management to housekeeping were kind, friendly and helpful. Also, the bed was the most comfortable we have ever slept in, so we have come home fully rested. We can’t wait to go back.

The Peefect Little Stay 🤎

The staff was kind and super helpful. The boutique hotel was colorful, modern and cozy. Especially great for couples or solo travelers. Breakfast in the morning was great and they really thought about all the details.

Honestly, everything was well thought out and we didn’t have any complaints for our short stay.

Enjoyable Stay

We had an early morning flight in from UK and were able to check in early. Staff were exceptionally friendly offering advice and information on our first visit to Cape Town. Our room had lovely views of Table Mountain. Our room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was cooked to order and delicious. We used Uber to get about.

Wonderful base for your stay in Cape Town

Beautifully decorated with great attention to detail. Service was exceptional and food was great. Loved the little touches like cake in the afternoon, the wine and gin bar. Very safe neighbourhood with lots of good restaurants and shops nearby.

Lovely hotel shame about room 5

The staff were first class - very helpful and friendly. The main building was welcoming and comfortable. The pool area good and a nice sun trap although overlooked by adjacent building, but it is a city hotel and so should be expected. Breakfast was good. The area felt safe, and close to good restaurants and bars.

My room (5) was small and in need of a bit of tlc. The bed was comfortable and a good size, however very little room for 2 people with cases etc. There was no window that could be left without curtains drawn unless you like people seeing you, and the main glass door opened directly onto the pool area and sun lounge occupiers. No fridge in the room. My friends had rooms that were better arranged and were better maintained. The bathroom was a little small but was ok for a short stay and has hair and shower toiletries.

Beautiful facility full of color and energy!! Staff was incredible. Very clean, great breakfast and lovely to have a glass of wine by the pool in the evening. The bed was very comfortable, room clean and bright.

Most of all the staff, they were incredibly helpful and delivered a fab service. Especially Tash and Luca. This truly felt like a home away from home for us. The perfect start to our trip.

Derwent House was fantastic. The team, from start to finish were so friendly and helpful, organising airport transfers, a full day peninsula tour and giving us recommendations for dinner etc. The hotel is beautifully decorated, and the thoughtful touches like freshly baked cakes each day and the honesty bar complimented the excellent service. Breakfast was included and there was a great range of freshly 'cooked to order' hot choices and cold options available. Gardens felt safe, the hotel had good security and Kloof Street with its restaurants and cafes was easily walkable. We would definitely recommend Derwent House to family & friends and wouldn't hesitate to stay again when we next visit Cape Town.

Awesome place to stay in Cape Town, perfect location and super friendly and helpful staff.

Derwent House Boutique Hotel was the perfect place for my visit to Cape Town. The location is fantastic - can walk to most of the most interesting sites, and it is near a street filled with restaurants, coffee shops, music venues, etc.. The hotel itself is beautifully designed and the rooms have everything one could need. The complementary breakfasts were outstanding with numerous choices each morning, and they also put out a soup and some other food, along with wine and other drinks for guests to later in the afternoon. Add to that a pool and views overlooking Table Mountain, and an extraordinarily friendly staff - this place can't be beat!!

Magnificent gem in the Mother City

A charming small hotel, beautifully appointed and decorated. Wonderful, attentive staff that goes out of their way to make your stay even better than you thought possible. Ready with incredible recommendations and arrangements. Wonderful breakfasts, cozy night caps and cake by the wood burning fireplace. Room 4 has Table Mountain views from 4 windows! The ambience of this place is the best we have ever experienced.

A perfectly delightful, cheerful stay with awesome staff, awesome food, and charming rooms.

The staff are all incredible- very friendly, helpful and fun… always there when you need them but it never felt intrusive. The breakfast was over the top wonderful!! The complimentary afternoon tea and sweets (even delicious soup!) was such a nice extra. Our room was so comfortable and equipped with everything we could want (and more!). In a lovely area. We had heard of high crime in Cape Town but never felt even remotely unsure of safety. There is someone on staff present 24/7, a locked gate and even a guard that patrols outside in the evening and will escort youbto a nearby restaurantnif you don’t opt for Uber. We took Uber everywhere, since they are quick, reliable, safe and inexpensive. Stay at Derwent, it is lovely!!

Love Love Love the Derwent House

My daughter and I absolutely loved our stay at the Derwent House for so many reasons, the main one being the amazing staff. The entire team at Derwent house showed such graciousness and warmth during both of our stays. Felt like we were coming home to old friends who were happy to see us every time we walked in the door. The property itself is beautiful - tons of natural light, colorful and fun furnishings and decor, great location within walking distance to shops and restaurants. There were plenty of delicious breakfast options on the menu every morning, and we enjoyed all of them! I'd love to come back to Cape Town just to stay here again.

We only had a short stay, but I’d highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a boutique experience in Cape Town. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle, it offers stunning views of Table Mountain and a peaceful atmosphere. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, and the staff went above and beyond—truly exceptional service from start to finish.

Spotless property with nice amenities. The staff were incredible, attentive, knowledgeable, and always willing to help us. Would highly suggest and would stay here again when visiting. Location is also fabulous walking distance from many bars and restaurants!

The location is so perfect you can walk to get dinner and drinks and the staff are incredibly helpful. Also loved the free snack and soup in the evening. The hot tub was also a nice extra touch.

Perfect stay in Cape Town

Very warm welcome into a beautifully decorated hotel overlooking the pool area. Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly staff. Huge attention to detail with room facilities eg. Hot water bottles and a daily suggested itinerary made our stay even more comfortable. Breakfast was amazing all so fresh and lots of choice, we also enjoyed the cakes in the afternoons! Will definitely be coming back and recommending to all family and friends. Felt very safe in the area too.

We stayed 5 nights. Staff were very helpful and accommodating. Breakfasts were excellent. Several little extras such as acknowledging our anniversary, nighttime treats etc were unexpected and lovely. Decor was bright and fun.

One of the best hotels I have been! Ideal when travelling alone.

One of the best places I have ever stayed and can fully recommend it to any age no matter if you tavel alone? In a group or with family. Small hotel with an eye for the detail. Nothing to compare with the bigger ones. Super friendly and helpful staff. Day started with healthy breakfast followed by homebaked cake and wine bar set up in the afternoon. Well decorated. Exceptionally clean, great breakfast. Fantastic staff. Overall, we loved our stay and would recommend highly.

Room was a bit small but the outdoor space and the lobby were very nice to sit in. Lighting in the room was not great. Good reading lights in bed are important given that there is not a chair to read in. The overhead light was dim too. At night and when the curtains were closed, it was a bit too dark for us to see.

A wonderful place to stay in the heart of Cape Town

A warm, friendly welcome from Luca set the tone for a very enjoyable stay. Nothing was too much trouble and the team made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Our upgraded room was spotlessly clean and well equipped and we enjoyed the luxury of having a lounge area to relax in, although our bedroom was a little small. Breakfast each morning was excellent with plenty of choice. The pool is a good size with comfortable sun loungers, perfect for whiling away a few hours in the sun. The hotel is ideally placed a short walk from Kloof Street which has a fantastic selection of cafes, bars and restaurants. A special mention to Luca who went above and beyond in organising an Uber to deliver a forgotten Kindle to the airport before our flight departed. We cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

A true gem!

This is a true gem. We stayed in the apartment which was fabulous. Very clean. Quiet. AC. Washer. WiFi. Full kitchen. Beyond well stocked! Excellent location and easy to walk to restaurants and cafes. We would definitely stay here again. The hotel arranged a driver/guide for us -Roger- who was terrific. And the hotel arranged seamless transportation from the airport and to our next destination. The afternoon cake and honor wine bar were bonuses.
