Well located with character

This property has a lot of character, very different from a bland Premier Inn type accommodation. It is well located in the heart of the town, five minutes walk from Hertford East station - coffee shop and newsagents across the road in the morning. My second floor room was well equipped and quiet with a comfortable bed. I was warned to “mind your head” on the stairs - warning notices as well would be useful.

The cut-off time of 20.30 for checking in worried me in advance - what if my train was delayed? In fact I’m sure the helpful bar attendant who showed me up would not have minded, but I could not know that. Actually the pub stays open till 10 pm, or 1 am Friday and Saturday.

Amazing room and location but felt cold for a winters month.

Was a colder day outside and understand it’s an old building but … I felt cold as only one radiator for the whole room and just thought a little extra electric heating could have helped to keep it warm, to make matters worse heating got turned off by the morning and the bathroom was constantly freezing 🥶

Lovely for a wee break to see friends

Central and clean and lovely staff! Earplugs were a great idea and very much appreciated! It’s a beautiful old building our room had exposed beams! Oh and the cocktails in the bar are delicious!

Woke up early hours with center traffic, lorry delivery, collection of waste - glass bottles, (ear plugs provided), but windows could do with being soundproofed tbh 😔

No hot water at all on the first morning so I couldn’t shave or shower. However, management got it fixed the same day so it was good to go the next morning - these things happen.

Dog and Whistle Hertford

Our small double room was clean and well presented. We were on the top floor, so accessing the room with the low ceiling was fun! Nicely decorated bedroom and bathroom with good lighting. Bathroom was spacious and light. Loved the lighting (for doing hair and makeup) and a full length mirror to check our outfits, on the door was great. Tea, coffee and biscuit selection was good. Bed was comfy. It was very cosy, so we were able to turn off the radiator and open a window. Pleasantly surprised we didn’t hear hardly any noise from the high street… Price was very good in comparison with other hotels in Hertford.

The room was very compact. For one night it was fine. It had 2 bed side cabinets and a hanging rail. The cold tap didn’t work in the bathroom basin and the hot was a dribble. So we filled the kettle up using the bath tap. But annoying when we wanted to wash our hands. As we passed the first floor I noticed a clothes airer with clothes on it.. It wasn’t in the way of accessing our room but just seemed odd being there.

Cosy comfortable room, a bit shabby in some areas. Bed very clean and comfortable. Slept well too without need of earplugs supplied.

Uncomfortable stay in Hertford

The location is central and right next to the car park. The room is small but modern.

The bed was lumpy with springs coming through. It was extremely uncomfortable. It is an old building so be prepared if u stay in a top floor room as it has a sloping ceiling and a very steep staircase to access the room.

Great 1 night stay

Friendly and welcoming staff, I asked about an earlier check in as we had a train to catch into London and they were very accommodating. Room was clean, comfy bed, nice selection of tea/coffee/biscuits, easy check in/check out. Great location

Quite nice place to stay in the winter / autumn with friendly staff and great food.

Staff was very friendly, the food that is available on site is quite tasty. The rooms are spacious and amenities are great.

There was no air conditioning in the rooms, was staying during a heat wave and the rooms were quite hot and resulted in not the best sleep. There were no fans provided to keep cool in the rooms.

Basic, clean accommodation for a short stay

It was central. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The room was basic but clean and they provided tea, coffee, water and snacks. They said it could be noisy and provided earplugs. We were on the street side of the building and weren’t disturbed by noise.

The shower head needs a clean- the water was only coming out of less than half of the holes and the water didn’t get vey hot, although the hand held shower was hot. Being on the Main Street they could do with a net curtain or something because the only way for privacy was to put down the blackout blinds which isn’t really practical in day time.
