Old style ryokan at the end of Nikko at the start of the walking paths to the shrines and temples and also near bus stop to chusenji onsen. Room was very comfortable old style with views towards the trees. Japanese style massage available in the room. Can cater for vegetarians. Private onsen also available but quite small and no view compared to the public one.
Nikko shuts down in the evening and there are not so many food options around the ryokan. Dinner is available at the ryokan but only full kaiseki menu at 13200yen / person. Quite pricey and very large if staying more than one night. One receptionist on the evening shift was unusually unhelpful and a bit rude for Japan but all the other staff were friendly and tried to accompany our requests.

Absolutely beautiful location. Lovely room and amazing breakfasts. The staff were extremely kind and helpful.

The staff were very helpful.
I didn’t have WiFi in my room, even after they tried to fix it. The onsen is small and closed during the day.
