The place reminded me of an old Italian villa - in a good way. the room was clean and nice. We had a cool balcony with a good view and there was even a place where we could dry our clothes and towels.

I mean, if you have put in solid hours on the trail then once you get back to the hotel and then go downhill to the center, the walk back to the hotel is not exactly a joy - you'll have to put in some leg work. Still, if you're fit, should not be a problem. The hotel does not have its own parking for the guests, you have to go down a block and park your car in the public parking/on the side of the street. It is not 100% convenient, but it worked.

Excellent room and great facilities. Superb terrace overlooking the bay. Good location in quiet Monte neighbourhood. A big thank-you to the staff member who walked uphill and taxi'd a forgotten mobile to the airport !

Nothing, everything was fine

Welcoming and helpful staff. This place has huge potential. The garden terrace was beautiful with a fabulous view of Funchal. The small pool was clean with plenty of towels and an outdoor kitchen for guests use. There was an honesty book with a good selection of drinks and nibbles available to purchase. The accommodation was traditional in style with older furniture. The mattress was firm and comfortable. The rooms were cleaned and made up on a daily basis.Breakfast was buffet style with a reasonable selection of meat, cheese, cereal and yogurt. There were 2 local bus services which minimised the need to use taxis. It is walkable to the old town. Approximately 30 minutes downhill.

The entrance hall and stairs up to,our bedroom was badly lit, very grubby looking with marked paintwork and the carpet appeared to be very dirty as well as being stained and worn out. It did not create a good first impression and we would have walked away if the bedroom had been anywhere near as bad. It all desperately needed some TLC and the shower head was obviously full of limescale, so the water sprayed out of just a few holes. The sealant around the tiles was black with mould. We would gladly have paid more for a bathroom with a proper shower or at least a shower screen instead of a curtain over the bath and everything regularly maintained and refreshed. Several of the neighbours had dogs which lived in the yard. Directly opposite the house were 2 Great Danes which barked loudly every night. Sadly by the end of the stay, we were extremely tired due to a lack of sleep. Appreciate there’s not a lot the owners can do about this, but would suggest providing guests with a fan in the rooms so that windows could be closed and the noise of the dogs muffled a little.
