Very lovely accomodation close to the Tayrona park.

Quetzal Dorado was a wonderful place to stay if you’re looking for a nice place to relax or if you’re looking to go to Tayrona National Park. There is a bus stop right across the road that has buses every 15 minutes to take you to Tayrona. The staff were kind and helpful. The food was incredible!! Wonderful breakfast included each morning and dinners that were spectacular. The view of the sunsets each night were amazing.

The staff are nice and the location is beautiful. But the owner must really hate money and the manager (same person) must really hate motivating and managing his staff. The following observations are NOT meant as criticism merely well-meant pointers to how you can go from ok to good or even great. And make more money. 1. Facilities: A) See to that there is WiFi in the huts/rooms. Or point out on booking that there’s not. B) We had around a dozen power outages during our four-day stay. Keep an extra diesel generator to keep the fans and the internet running in the meantime. C) Everyone is going somewhere (Tayrona for hiking, beach etc). Have a QR code in the reception with all the up-to-date info about transportation, general costs, things to bring etc. And why not offer a shuttle service (=extra money for you) to destinations where people want to go. 2. Staff. Very kind but either 0% trained or equally 0 incentivized. It is NOT good service management to sit in the lounge /restaurant area to watch soapoperas or browse whatever on your phone so the guests have to ask for the menu or drinks. When you serve people: Give suggestions, ask if they would like to have a drink before dinner etc. Ask them if they liked the food, if they want desserts etc. Don’t just slam the menu on the table and leave. You can make more money! Same when people hang by the pool all day: ask if they want a drink, icecream or whatever. And if the same customer asks for a coke light three days in a row, take that as a hint that you could actually provide it on day for. Ask the customers what their plans are for visiting the area and how you can be of service. And if you see a lady carrying a heavy luggage all the 50 steps up to reception, go and help! All this is common sense but either the owner has never visited a great service facility or he/she hates managing people or making money.
