Quaint traditional cottage with everything you need. Comfortable couch and beds, great stove especially for winter stays. Doggy friendly too!
Just beware that the stairs is very steep and there are low sides to the bedroom ceiling.

Lovely location with great views (when the weather permitted) Extremely quiet with bird song outside. Rustic traditional cottage.
Expensive to pay extra money on top of the accommodation cost for heating and hot water. I was only 1 person and was very careful in my usage but was asked to pay an additional €10 per night for my electricity plus I already also bought approximately €20 of firewood for the fire.

Valentia Island and its surrounding area is beautiful and highly recommended. The cottage is comfy and cozy and a great place to return to after a day of exploring. You can see the ocean from your window and there's an amazing non-touristy view over the Skelligs at the end of the road. The hosts are friendly, helpful and on standby in case you need anything. The pub in Portmagee (where the bridge to the island is) was perfect for our essential Guinness dose.
Because of the rain & stormy weather things got kind of damp inside and that never really changed until our departure. We enjoyed the turf stove but as a main heating system it might not be for everyone (it's like a barbecue: someone needs to get up to keep things going) once the temperatures drop. Because it works differently back home, it took us some time to discover we needed to pull a string before the shower works :)

Stone cold floor, bathroom downstairs and bedrooms upstairs. Ladder for a stairs. Being asked to pay for electricity. Very basic kitchen

Loved the cottage – full of charm, warmth, and traditional character, with unforgettable views across Dingle Bay. The hosts went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, offering a level of Co. Kerry hospitality that extended well beyond Valentia itself. Every outing, no matter how far we roamed, ended with the same thought: we couldn’t wait to come home to Cul Cottage.
As we explored the coastline steeped in legend, we found ourselves tracing the spirit of St. Brendan’s voyage — the very shores from which he is said to have set sail. Just across the bay lies Brandon Creek, and while Valentia isn’t named in the old tales or Christy Moore’s song, standing here it’s easy to believe this could have been part of his journey. Cul Cottage felt like the kind of place one might return to after such an odyssey — a quiet, welcoming haven at the edge of the world.

Authentic experience of staying in old cottage. Beautiful views and lovely location. Ideal fo exploring the island and also the surrounding area. We were fortunate with the weather. Loved the electric blankets and comfy beds.
The info on Booking.com said that there was a restaurant on site and an outdoor bath?? There was no restaurant. fortunately we had food with us as after a long journey we were too tired to go searching for food. Light switches were high up on beams so not easy to access for short people.

It was perfectly located with beautiful ocean views from the back garden. The cottage was like going back in time. Blazing fire at night made it feel so cosy. Fully kitted out kitchen was ideal for a family who need to have cooking facilities or couple who want to totally detach from technology for few days.
I can't fault anything. It is a 200 year old cottage so was exactly as I expected. Wonderfully different.

We met Ger who gave us a tour and the keys, and who had already got a fire going for us. He went above and beyond throughout our trip, and we felt very cared for! Already looking forward to coming back.

I found Cuil Cottage by chance when driving by on a road trip a few years ago and fell in love with it. If you are looking for a place to get away from it all with quiet and solitude, this is it. No better way to unwind after a long countryside stroll than to sit by the fire and read a good book! Also, the landlords are awesome. They stopped by to check in on me and even gave me lots of their homegrown tomatoes. Thank you so much! I‘m looking forward to coming back soon.
The water in the shower and sink smells a bit funny due to the old pipes. Derarca and Gérard provide containers of fresh water for drinking and cooking though, so that is not really a problem.

Its a fairytale cottage, very charming and rustic. The views from the backgarden are amazing, and occasionally a horse or a cow will say hello. It transports you back into a different time, just with all the modern day comforts. The beds were really cosy and the kitchen has everything you need if you want to selfcater. We didnt use the electric heaters as it wasnt that cold during the day, but we lit the stove every night and it gave a lovely warm atmosphere. The internet connection is really good. There is a lot to explore in and around the island, our 3 night stay was not long enough! Our 5 and 8 y old kids loved it too, so we will definitely return.
As others said before, the shower is not one to enjoy, but we knew that by reading the reviews before and it didnt put us off. Regarding the sitting arrangements, maybe a small armchair or rocking chair in addition to the couch would provide another cosy seat. The monks bench is awesome but quite uncomfy to sit on. It didnt bother us as our kids went to bed early hence we had the couch to ourselves, but if you would have 4 adults staying, it could get uncomfortable on the bench.

Amazing house set in a beautiful location. Very relaxing and unique in every way. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. Valentia is a stunning place and we enjoyed the scenery so much.
There's not much not to like here.
People with mobility issues wouldn't be able for the stairs but we all took our time and had no problem.

Our GPS got us to Valancia Island but no further. We called the hosts and one of them drove out to meet us and led us to the cottage. The cottage was so historical in atmosphere (fully modernized though). Surrounded by beautiful countryside. The host also supplied us with all the kindling needed to have a cozy fire in the living room fireplace. The location was great. Very close by to The Skellig Islands, Cliffs of Kerry, Cliffs of Fogher, Geokaun Mountain Lookout, and Valentia Lighthouse (all not to be missed). Also, close by was a scenic walk to Bray Head. Restaurants are close by in Portmagee and Knights Town. There is a small grocery store in Portmagee.
The stairs to the second story (where the bedrooms are) is very narrow and steep. Not the easiest to get large luggage up. However, according to the host, there used to be a drop-down ladder, so the narrow staircase is an improvement! Note: The bathroom is on the first (ground) floor.

This cottage is exactly as expected. We stayed 2 nights in February. We really enjoyed our journey back in time and the beautiful surroundings. The beds were really comfortable and the bedrooms nice and warm. There are heaters everywhere. Downstairs was a little nippy but this is to be expected at this season. The cottage was spotless. We would definitely recommend this place and would love to go back!

Very nice little cottage with fantastic views, great communication with the owners. Well equipped kitchen, with everything you need. Electric blankets are definitely a bonus.
Definitely the shower needs replacement - perhaps an electric shower would be an option.
Also, monks bench rather uncomfortable, no one wanted to sit on it - I’d go for something more comfortable like 2 seater or else a lazy chair on each side of the fireplace.

An absolutely delightful cottage and a step back in time! Very cosy and comfortable, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, will definitely be back in summer.
I would highly recommend improving the shower facility as the water temperature was difficult to control, either scorchingly hot or very cold plus the water barely dripped out of the shower head making it impossibly to enjoy anything more than a quick lick and a promise! A minor inconvenience but I would say worth trying to improve the water pressure and the temperature control.

Everything about our stay! Loved the location, the beds were very comfy and the log stove made the cottage very cosy.
Nothing major at all, shower & toilet water pressure could be better if I had to pick something.
