Il Maggese

Il Maggese is a remarkable agriturismo in one of the most beautiful areas in the Cortona region. The rooms: the rooms are beautifully appointed, well stocked and a lot of effort has been put into the decor. The owner has really taken the time to bring the palazzos back to their glory. If you are looking for an authentic stay in beautiful rooms, that also have modern amenities (washing machine, great toilets, great showers and shower pressure, full kitchen, etc) you’re in the right place. Beds are comfortable and the rooms are nice and spacious. The hosts: Flavia is a magnificent person and very attentive. She has plenty of recommendations and knows the area inside out. I highly recommend asking her for her recommendations in the area. The agriturismo: one thing not to be missed are the grounds as well as the offerings of this hotel. The pool is a great addition, they offer cooking classes and let’s not forget about the food. The food: Breakfast is absolutely fantastic. Tons of options. Be sure to try the homemade jams, the homemade cakes as well as the scrambled eggs and cheeses and meats from local producers. Dinner: I strongly recommend booking a dinner with Flavia. The homemade pastas made of Italian grains are not to be missed. The eggplant parmigiana was delightful. The small appetizers (olives, sun-dried tomatoes etc.) are carefully curated and absolutely delicious. For meat lovers, the chianina (beef local to the region) was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We loved dinner here so much that we went twice during our short stay. I highly recommend taking home some of her pasta, specifically the calamarata which you can make at home. Flavia’s wines are a must. While the white wine was absolutely delightful, I took a bottle of the red (Colpo Di testa) home as I had to make a tough choice due to the limited space in my lugguage. If you’re looking an authentic stay with great rooms and food, you’ve found the right place. Thanks again guys!

Beautiful and peaceful property, large appartments , super nice staff , especially Flavia the owner, and beautiful breakfast every morning !

It was a fantastique stay honestly but the bed in one of the two appartements we rented was a little noisy….

We liked everything; the food was delicious, the setting and surrounding areas were beautiful, the accommodation perfect with not a tv in sight; the grounds delightful, especially the swimming pool area with breath taking views. Special mention for Flavia, the owner, who is a lovely and gracious host who cares about the environment. Loved her commitment to organic produce with a basket of lovely vegetables left for us to use.

The apartment was simple and genuinely beautiful. Our host was very warm and helpful. The property among gardens, vineyards and olives felt like paradise. The dinners were the best we had in our 20 day stay in Italy.

Absolutely beautiful historic villa, a large park with multiple areas to relax and observe the nature around. Breathtaking views of wonderful serene atmosphere. The host Flavia is wonderful! She makes you feel at home right away, and it’s really hard to leave when your stay is over :). Very convenient - location is close to several historic towns and scenic areas. It’s also great to have an option of breakfast and other meals arranged at the property.

Il Maggese is a beautiful estate set against the hills near Cortona. The building, the beautifully maintained garden with swimming pool are beautiful, the hospitality of Flavia and her partner heartwarming. Although the apartments are equipped with full kitchens, we recommend opting for the house's meals which, like the products made there, are delicious.

The setting in the Tuscan countryside was idyllic. The beautifully kept gardens and swimming pool were a perfect place to relax. The location gave easy access for day trips to Sienna, Assisi, Orvieto, and other fascinating places in Tuscany and Umbria as well as having a wealth of fascinating places to explore close by such as Cortona and Lake Trasimeno. An unexpected bonus was seeing and hearing Hoopoes in the grounds, nightingales singing and nightjars calling in the surrounding countryside and at night watching scores of fireflies floating through the still air of the adjacent lane. Finally, our host Flavia was charming, helpful and informative and provided us with some delicious meals and her own olive oil, wine and pasta.
