Il Poggio Country Resort

Heel vriendelijke gastvrouw en gastheer, die alles in het werk stellen om je verblijf aangenaam te maken. Van op zijn heuvel, heeft Il Poggio een fantastisch uitzicht op de omgeving. Aan het zwembad kan je werkelijk tot rust komen. Ook daar zorgt Tatiana er voor dat je niks te kort komt. Bij het ontbijt heb je keuze tussen zoute en zoete gerechten en er is vers geperst fruitsap. Wij logeerden in een 1 kamer appartement, waar we een keukentje ter beschikking hadden met alle keukengerei aanwezig, om een eenvoudige maaltijd te breiden. De goed koelende frigo was voorzien van (te betalen) drank. Tatiana kan je heel veel tips geven over wat je kan bezoeken, welke restaurants er in de omgeving goed zijn,... ze maakt zelfs reservaties voor jou en contacteert mensen, als je een excursie wil doen.

Het bed was heel hard.

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with genuine Sicilian hospitality and made to feel like valued guests. The owners were incredibly friendly, attentive, and always ready to help with recommendations and local advice. The property is beautifully maintained, surrounded by nature, and offers magnificent views of the countryside. Our room was comfortable, charming, and full of authentic character. Breakfast on the terrace was excellent, with fresh local products and a wonderful atmosphere. The location is ideal for exploring Taormina, Castelmola, Mount Etna, and the Alcantara Gorges while still enjoying peace and tranquility away from the crowds..

We received a wonderfully warm welcome and immediately felt at home. The rooms were beautifully decorated, full of character and authentic Sicilian charm. The owners were exceptionally kind and helpful. The location offers stunning views and is an excellent base for visiting Taormina and the Gole dell’Alcantara. Breakfast served on the terrace overlooking the countryside was delicious and one of the highlights of our stay. We highly recommend this place.

Tatiana was a wonderful host and seems to run the whole place herself. She couldn't have been nicer or more helpful! Also, the property is in peaceful countryside with lovely views from the terrace.

Il Poggio is styled as a "country resort" but it's in fact a fairly basic self-catering unit, with a small kitchen area and a old fashioned bathroom with a basic but workable shower. There is no coffee or tea in the room, but because Tatiana is on her own you can't always go to the desk to ask for a drink (example: she had a day off after breakfast one of our days, so we couldn't get anything to drink from the bar at all). The bed in particular has a very basic mattress, we could feel the springs against our backs very clearly and sleeping was uncomfortable.
