We have been traveling to the Asheville area over Labor Day for the past nine years. Our group ranges from 12-14 people so it’s not easy finding a place that satisfies everyone (not to mention having enough bathrooms). This is our second year staying at this property and there is no doubt we will be returning. The house and hosts are equally incredible. It’s the perfect Asheville location. We go downtown, to the village and hiking in the Pisgah Forest, they are all so easy from this house. If you are looking for a family friendly destination, this is the place for you. As I said, no doubt that we will return.

This space is beautiful! The house is comfortable and spacious + views are breathtaking. You can easily get to Asheville then retreat back to the house to relax. Sam and Laura were very attentive and responded quickly to our needs throughout the weekend. We hope to stay here again in the future. Highly recommend this mountain getaway!

We had a lovely time with my family in this very roomy and well-appointed home. And I cannot say enough about our hosts, who were highly responsive to all our questions and who went out of their way to help us out when we had a little car trouble. The house is quite a bit out of the way if you’re visiting Asheville, but the upside is that you have the views all to yourself without seeing or hearing any neighbors. We will certainly look forward to coming back.

You can't beat the view from either of the decks! And super quiet! The game room in the lower level was a hit for our family. The backyard was fantastic and its not very common to have a flat grass yard in the mountains. We even saw 3 black bears and multiple deer walk right through the yard! It is a very steep road to get to the house and an even steeper driveway. I was a bit concerned with how steep the driveway was but our cars made it up fine. As others have stated, the internet is essentially non-existent. There is a 4G Verizon router that we used a few times but even that only seemed to work on the decks due to poor cell service. But we didn't need internet much so not a big problem. The kitchen is very well stocked and had everything we needed. Sam was very quick to respond to anything we needed and it was clear he wanted to ensure we were completely satisfied and comfortable while there.

Beautiful home, beautiful views! This home was perfect for our family getaway. There was more than enough room for our group of 11. From the fully stocked kitchen to the basement game room, we had everything we needed. The drive to town for groceries was less than 15 mins, Asheville was 20mins. We will definitely stay here again!

5 couples and 1 baby spent a week here in October. The house was plenty big enough for all of us. We had many sit down dinners at the big dining table. The deck is expansive and the view sublime. My only criticism is the internet is very slow. And yes we did see a bear and 2 cubs

This was our second year, staying at Sam and Laura‘s cabin for the week of Thanksgiving. Sam and Laura are incredibly accommodating and very quick to respond to any needs. They are proactive in checking in and just wonderful to work with. The cabin is beautiful, and very spacious, which is important to our larger family. Everyone feels like they have their own space. The view is absolutely breathtaking and by far my favorite thing about the cabin. The fireplace is wonderful and brings the family together with plenty of seating area in the living room. There is everything you could need in this cabin’s kitchen. There’s a fun trail just a short walk down the mountain and we went on a great hike that Sam and Laura recommended. It is only 25 minutes to Asheville if you want to visit the city. We love it so much we’re going back again - we highly recommend this cabin!

Beautiful views, tons of porch furniture to accommodate a large group. Well stocked kitchen, but could use more plates and some smaller bowls. Tons of board games available, along with pool, foosball and badminton! Would definitely rent again if we're in the area with a larger group. We were seven college friends and couldn’t have picked a better place to spend a week. The house was super clean and comfy. The kitchen, baths and laundry were well stocked. It was great not to have to bring soaps, paper products, etc. The hosts, Sam and Laura were quick to respond to questions and accommodating to our needs. Midweek they restocked our firewood for the nice fires we enjoyed each evening in the beautiful fireplace in the living room. There was plenty of space for us to have alone time to rest or read and plenty of space for our great dinners and reminiscing. Being on top of a mountain gave us those wonderful views and amazing privacy. We would love to come back sometime. Thanks Sam and Laura!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this house. We had 7 in our group and the accommodations were great for that amount of people. We have stayed in many, many homes with VRBO and I can honestly say that it was one of the best we’ve ever had. It was equipped with everything we needed and the communication with the owner was amazing. It also had so much to do there including ping pong, pool table, corn toss, Foosball, and the best view you could ask for of the Blue Ridge Mountains on a huge back porch. Would rent it again.

We are a group of three couples that have rented houses in Ireland, Napa, Temecula, Portland, Virginia and now North Carolina. The house is amazing and the views from the decks are incredible! The house is in a great location, Lots things to see and do with in a 30 minute drive. We booked a wine tour that picked us at the house and took us to three wineries. The Biltmore House is nearby. The Sierra Nevada Brewery is also an easy drive away. Buxton Hall Barbecue is close to the house. The food was fantastic. Sam and Laura were our contacts for the property. They reached out to us several times during our stay to make sure we didn't have any questions or concerns. Long story, short. We would rent this again and heartily recommend it to others!

Our week-long stay was fabulous. The home is immaculate, beautifully maintained and more than comfortable. We spent an incredible amount of time on the deep, spacious deck in all kinds of weather (warm, cool, majestic thunderstorms) and could not get enough of the ever-changing mountain views. Every minute offered another gorgeous panoramic photo opportunity. We were visited several times by black bears (mamma, papa and two juveniles) during the day and after dark. We got fun video and audio (from a safe distance). Our cars were their main attraction. They took what they wanted from several unlocked cars, leaving little indication of their snooping except open doors, pawprints and empty wrappers. They took two door handles from the one locked car then gave up on that one. Their visits made for great social media posts and a week of bear puns (can you "bear" to hear another bear story?) Highly recommended and will stay again.

This cabin had the most beautiful Mountain View! The sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking. There is a wrap-around deck with wonderful rocking chairs. I spent so much time sitting outside enjoying the peaceful view. The cabin was very spacious and easily accommodated our large family for Thanksgiving. The downstairs game area was fantastic and both the kids and adults enjoyed the ping pong, pool and football games. The kitchen was fully stocked and the owners were very conscientious and had hand sanitizers in every bedroom and lots of toiletries. They were very responsive and went out of their way to make our stay wonderful. The driveway is quite steep (made for a fun workout challenge to try to jog up) but there is plenty of room at the top to park and turnaround so it wasn’t scary at all (and this is coming from a Floridian who isn’t used to hills). We easily fit our 4 cars/vans. The owners pick up the trash/recycling if/when you want, which is much nicer than other locations we have been to. And the fireplace was so wonderful-we spent every night in front of the fire!! I can’t say enough nice things. We really enjoyed ourselves and I highly recommend the cabin.

Everything was wonderful except for three things - poor internet connectivity, the road to get to the house was only wide enough for 1 vehicle and was extremely dangerous and you park on the ground level but the bedrooms are on the 3rd floor. The owners were wonderful and constantly in contact with us. The amenities were were very nice and the kitchen had all the items one would need. I would still rate the house a 5 even with the three items I've listed above.

We stayed here for our son’s wedding in Asheville. What a treat to be perched on the side of a mountain enjoying the quiet and stunning views rather than in a hotel room. It was an easy drive, about 15 minutes, to downtown. The pictures do no sdo this property justice - it is amazing. Spacious, more than enough seating inside and out, lots of kitchen essentials (pots, pans, bakewear, etc), newer appliances, large bedrooms and bathrooms. I could go on and on. I will say the drive is quite steep, be ready! But once at the top lots of nice level parking. Couldn’t have asked for a more perfect place to stay. We even had a visitor, black bear, one evening!

We loved every minute of our stay! The location is great and the views from the many balconies are absolutely glorious. Our favorite spot in the early morning was the porch swing and living room on the top balcony. Not only the views were picture-perfect but the layout of the space (both indoors and outdoors) was truly usable. Not a day went by that one of us didn't comment on how fantastic this house was. We were 3 families and we had ample space to have some quiet time if we wanted to (we made use of every single inch of the outdoor space to take in the mountain views), but also lots of space to gather together in small and big groups. The kitchen and dining room was big enough that we could cook/eat together, there were several indoor seating areas and of course the basement was a great spot to play. Mostly we spent our time on the main level sitting in the very comfortable outdoor living room or lounging on the many rocking chairs facing the mountains. The location of the house was really great for our purpose. We could be in town in 20 minutes which made running into Asheville for a short period of time and coordinating with a big group very easy. There are grocery stores nearby and a fantastic coffee shop 10 minutes away. The east side of the Blue Ridge Parkway towards Craggy Gardens was very easily accessible and the drive to the west side of the parkway towards a Skinny Dip Falls was not too bad. From the house we could not see or hear any neighbors so we felt like we were alone in the mountains even though we were in fact a hop and a jump from Asheville. The only thing to note is that the driveway is very steep and long so we would need to use our 4 wheel drive if we were to come in the winter. Having said that there was ample space for all of our cars which was great!The kitchen was really well equipped and there was plenty of pillows, blankets and throws... The only things to note (those were very clearly communicated to us ahead of time) were that the Internet reception was very spotty (we used our phones as hotspots a lot). And in the top master bedroom there are no curtains on the French doors which means that the light comes in early in the morning. We did not mind at all but I imagine someone who needs a pitch-black room to be able to sleep would want to pick a different room in the house. Finally the owners of the house were wonderful. They were friendly helpful communicative and very easy to work with.

Gorgeous unblocked mountain views. Spacious living areas. Gracious hosts who made every part of the process easy. We thought we had left something at the property after we left and Sam and Laura were gracious enough to check and communicate with us after we had headed home. Our family of 5 enjoyed a long weekend at the Chestnut Forest Home. The home was very clean and all the amenities well thought out. The view is spectacular from the deck and serves as a great base location for Asheville area adventures. Special thanks to the owners who immediately came to the rescue when my daughter realized 150 miles from the house that she left her favorite blanket and sweater on the bed. They immediately responded to my txt and gladly shipped the package the next day. My daughter was thrilled, southern hospitality at its best. Our family is looking forward to a return visit in the future.
