Madelise Grand Hotel & Spa

Extremely well localised, not only accomodated my late check in, bedroom was cooled to the perfect temperature when I arrived. Clean, luxurious bed and shower. Very very close to buses.

The location was good, being close to Ho Han Kiem (lake), where you can buy tickets for The Hop On Hop Off bus tour. Overall, the staff were very helpful.

We imagine like others, we were beguiled by the attractive room pictures on Booking.com. However, even accepting that the hotel is going to show its best rooms, ours and our son's were disappointing, with no external windows, only to the internal corridor, or ventilation. The main problem though was the very musty smell and the damp feel of the bedding and everything we left in the room whilst out, undoubtedly a consequence of the lack of ventilation. Perhaps that's our fault for booking a hotel in the Old Quarter; certainly we should have read the reviews more thoroughly beforehand. Also, it is fair to say that the Madelise was one of the most reasonable hotels in the area, so we couldn't (and didn't) expect The Ritz or The Savoy, but Grand it wasn't and we weren't sorry to move on.
