Lovely week in Mechelen.

The location of the property is within walking distance of the city centre 15 min walk. Close to motor way if you come by car. Plenty of parking. Good for long walks along the canal. The hosts are friendly and welcoming, the kitchen has everything in it if you want to some cooking and everywhere very clean.

The position of the television is in the wrong place, maybe rearrange the beds.

The property is well-located and clean, but the host is intrusive and over-bearing. We certainly would not stay at this

The property was in a great location for getting quickly and easily into Mechelen’s city center, and to the train station. It is located next to a canal which is very pretty, and has a wonderful bike path. The property was clean, and looked out onto a pretty backyard, although there was not access to the yard. The property was adequately stocked. The wi-if worked well, and the host provided a map with information about sights in Mechelen. The host was communicative around the timing of our arrival.

I want to first note that we are a mature couple in our 70’s, and not at all nit-picky. We have given other properties that we’ve stayed in very high ratings, but found this property problematic. The property is located downstairs from the host, and is arranged in such a way that apartment is visible from the internal stairs leading up to the host’s property through a translucent panel — that is, the host can see whether we were in the property, in bed, etc. The host made it clear that the rooms would be “aired daily” which meant that the host entered our apartment every day during our stay while we were out sightseeing. This intrusiveness felt uncomfortable to us. We had told the host that we were visiting our daughter in Mechelen. After dinner on the last evening of our stay, when we came back and were just entering the apartment, the host immediately came downstairs and said loudly and emphatically that we could not have 3 people stay in the apartment. We explained that we were just saying good-bye to our daughter and that she would not be sleeping overnight. He then berated us for placing our daughter’s bicycle in the apartment while we were out to dinner. He said that was not permitted as it would damage the walls of the property. We explained that we own property ourselves, that we’re very careful and would not do any damage to the property but this did not satisfy him. He continued to harangue us for several more minutes. Finally, he went back upstairs to his home but this interaction left a very bad taste. We certainly would not stay at this property again, and we would caution others that the host is intrusive and over-bearing.

Warm welcome by the canal

Our wonderful warm, friendly hosts Suzanne and Jan, made us feel so very welcome and looked after, during our stay in this very comfortable apartment – right from our first view of the front door where a blackboard outside announced a personal welcome message for us. The front door opens onto the main bedroom, with two comfortable chairs as well as the comfortable twin beds. The spacious and well-equipped kitchen/dining room contains an extra single bed. The front door is just the bike path away from the canal (although without a view of the canal because the bike path is raised), which makes for a quiet and peaceful environment. Getting around Mechelen from here is very simple, especially with bicycles or by walking. We were able to lock our bicycles in the garage for security.

Het was een zeer aangename verblijf, alles was voorzien en het was zeer netjes.De locatie ligt aan de vaart en op 5 min fietsen tot aan de markt.

goed voor 2 nachtjes, zeer vriendelijke verhuurder

werd opgewacht door de verhuurder, welke zeer vriendelijk was. eerste avond ook opgewacht door verhuurder met interesse vragen, advies eten enz.

kamer was zeer warm geen airco, konden geen ramen open gedurende nacht. Overdag kamer niet gelucht en prullenbakken niet geleegd wat wel aangegeven was, ook geen droge handdoeken, dus ochtend vochtige handdoeken ;-(
