Ryokan Sarashinaya

The Ryokan is run by a Japanese family who was extremely kind and helpful. My husband has a bad migraine and they were able to help me find the right medication despite the language barriers. We booked an economy room with a river and mountain views and upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness and the pot of tea and biscuits the owners had left for us. The room has two doors which really helped to dampen noises. We decided to book a Kaiseki dinner which was both delicious and a great value. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

We have discovered that we are not a huge fan of sleeping on Japanese futons but that’s not the Ryokan’s fault. It’s about a 10-15 minute walk from the train station so not suitable if you’re carrying a big luggage.

The traditional style, location and how welcoming staff was. We loved experiencing a traditional Ryokan accomodation. You have your own tea set in the room and your beds are folded. We could hear the soothing river from the room. They allowed us to keep our luggage both before check in and after check out until we went back from Narai the next day. The bed mats can be a bit thin, but it was ok for one night.
