lovely hotel in the heart of the Black Forest

The hotel is situated in the heart of the Black Forest and close to touristic hotspots. The owners are very friendly. Breakfast is basic bur there is enough variety to choose from different kinds of bread, meat and cheese and sweet things. When the bar is not open there is an honesty bar at the accomodation with cooled drinks and local beers and ice cream. The rooms are spacious and the bathroom is clean. Beds are comfortable and it was nice to have a table and 4 chairs in the room to be able to sit down and play some games. At the time of our visit the kitched was in renovation so we had to go out for diner on a daily basis, but this was well communicated up front.

The hotel is in a stunning location and provides a very warm welcome and excellent service. The rooms are light and well equipped and very comfortable. The hosts are very kind and friendly and always ready to help.

Very nice local business

Ideal for mountain/forest vacation.

Hotel has very specific check-in hours between 6pm and 8pm. Eventually, it worked out fine for us, but I didn't notice the unusual check-in times and had to shuffle plans a bit. A small fridge could have been useful in the room.

Exceptional

The place was beautiful, you have a great view of the mountain, there is a little river in front. The staff was really nice and friendly, they help us when we had a problem. I would stay there again, I highly recommend it.

there was a small problem with regards to checkin time. Keeping checkin slot between 1800 till 2000 is bit narrow. However, they do accept other checkin time as well but then it requires calling and intervention

We liked everything about the hotel and staff. The hotel was clean and comfortable, the staff were helpful and friendly. Room was great, with view of creek and valley. Position in the country was great, you have to have transportation to get there, but that is good because your not in town!!

Renne the owner was kind and helpful He fulfilled all our needs and requests. The breakfast was nice and the room was clean.

We stayed 4 adults and 2 kinds in 2 rooms, on the family room it was nice if we could have 2 single beds for kids - we had only one.

Acceptable, but skip the breakfast.

The location was good for our travel plans, and it was nice to have a larger room with beds for our entire family.

Our visit started poorly when the owner muttered a quiet insult when we told her where we lived. Fortunately, we did not encounter her during the rest of our stay. When we went to our room, it was quite cold as the heat had been turned off. Our room never reached our desired temperature. Additionally, the breakfast selection was fairly limited, and what was provided was of mediocre quality. This would have been acceptable if it were included in the cost of the room, but the additional charge was too expensive for what was provided.

Unpleasant surprise(s)

Really nothing to like.

Ignore what you read on this website or other booking sites about the great bar and restaurant. They are closed (this information is hidden at the very, very bottom under 'fine print' - PLEASE SCROLL DOWN.) and have been for months as the receptionist told me when she opened the door to the clearly broken kitchen. You will find yourself in the middle of nowhere faced with a 5km drive down a dark winding road into Wolfach to find some dinner. Worse, you will have to do the same to get some breakfast – there is nothing open in Kirnbach village and this hotel can’t even be bothered to provide some bread rolls for breakfast in your room. The rooms are clean but nothing to get excited about (especially on the top floor where you only get a rooflight). English not spoken here (maybe in the tourist season) Wi-fi practically impossible to connect to if you have an i-Phone, i-Pad or macbook and there are no instructions in the room. This is the only time I had this problem during my 2 weeks in Germany. And don’t leave any cash laying around as it might go missing (even if it is in an envelope) If you are touring the Black Forest do yourself a favour and avoid Hotel Sonne and stay instead in one of the hotels in Wolfach such as Gasthaus Hotel Hecht which has a great restaurant, a warm welcome and free parking at the rear.
