The Fortress Resort & Spa Galle

We spent a fabulous 3 nights in the Fortress at the end of our Sri Lanka trip and wished it was more. The swimming pool was a massive hit with the family, the staff were amazing and the rooms incredibly comfortable. We especially liked the in room jacuzzi.

With the monsoon weather and sea spray, the floors and stairs always seemed a bit slippy but staff did try to to keep on top of it. Restaurant was very pricey.

The beach access and Jacuzzi pool is amazing 🤩 had a relax vacation . During our stay we enjoyed walking around pool and view of the sea. Great location to go around Ahangama , Mirissa. Food is good too lot of options however it’s bit pricey. Night view of the beach is too good. Worth staying

As it was off season around End of August it was little boring and restaurants near by was empty, The rooms were moist and kind of smelly maybe due to the beach side property.

One of the best hotel stays we have ever experienced, from beginning to end. From the moment we arrived at the property until the moment we left, we received nothing short of exceptional service. Every detail came together to make our stay peaceful, relaxing, and truly unforgettable. The staff is incredibly warm, friendly, and always willing to go the extra mile. From the front desk and pool staff to the restaurant team, everyone made a genuine effort to ensure we had everything we needed. They took the time to explain the available amenities, make sure everything was set up for us, and, most importantly, consistently checked that we were having a wonderful stay. A special mention has to go to Suban from the restaurant. He is, without a doubt, one of the best hospitality professionals we have encountered across all the hotels we have stayed at. Always carrying a warm and genuine smile, Suban made sure we were exceptionally well taken care of throughout our meals. His attention to detail was remarkable. There were several moments when we were pleasantly surprised by how attentive he was to the smallest details. For example, at times I arrived at the table with something that required a small spoon, Suban would somehow appear moments later with one — without us ever having to ask. It is these seemingly small gestures that make such a big difference. What takes a hotel from great to exceptional is the human touch, and Suban truly embodies that at The Fortress. The food was another highlight of our stay. There was a fantastic variety, everything we tried was delicious, and the action stations added an extra sense of energy and colour to the dining experience. We genuinely enjoyed every meal we had. The property itself is beautiful, with excellent facilities and very clean, well-maintained rooms. And the view from the pool is simply to die for!

Nothing at all

The pool is beautiful, clean and fantastic to swim in. The lounge chairs are really comfortable. Breakfast was lovely, tasty and fresh. Housekeeping staff were really kind and efficient. We were gifted a tasting box of nuts on our arrival which was a nice touch and felt like we were off to a nice start. Room is very clean, and the bed is comfortable.

The service throughout the hotel was consistently slow. At the restaurant, we waited around 15 minutes just to order drinks, then another 30 minutes to receive them. When my second drink finally arrived, it did not taste as good as the first. At the pool, it also took a very long time before anyone approached us to ask if we wanted drinks. We were not given a menu, and once again the lime sodas took a long time to arrive and did not taste like they were made with real lime juice. Room service was atrocious. The telephones don't work at all, and it was really hard to be understood by the staff. It was like speaking on a military intercom in the 60s. They of course got the order wrong, but this is not their fault , but the hotel's for not updating equipment and phones. We were approached three separate times by staff promoting a yoga class. However, yoga was not even offered every day during our stay. Advertising an activity that is not available is misleading, and the repeated interruptions disrupted our relaxation. One of the same staff members interrupted us during a gym session to question whether we were members and told us to go to reception, despite the fact that we were clearly hotel guests. Since access to the gym is only possible through the hotel, this interaction felt unnecessary and accusatory. The gym equipment is really old and nothing seemed really clean. There were pigeons everywhere along the room access bannisters, which gave a poor impression of cleanliness. The bathtub water was not running properly, although the shower worked fine. While the room was very large, the decor felt lacking in taste and character. I normally do not leave negative reviews, but no one asked for feedback during checkout, so I am sharing it here. We stayed in several five-star hotels during our trip to Sri Lanka, and this was by far the weakest experience. It was not worth the price when compared to what other hotels offered.
