About this cottage rental

Craig-E-Brae History
Craig-E-Brae was built in the mid 1800’s with a thatched roof. Then in 1936, the thatched roof was taken off, the walls raised and covered with a slate roof.

In 1964, the chimneys were rebuilt and the walls replastered. In 1996, a major restoration took place, modernising the facilities, whilst retaining its original (traditional) appearance and charm. The old peat shed has been converted into a single garage. The horsewalk is intact with some of the mechanical apparatus in place. This system of cogs, shafts and pulley wheels drove plunge churns and a threshing machine / corn cleaner in what was known as the Dairy. (the exposed stone built outhouses remain standing)

The cottage was owned by my Great Grandfather, Alexander Craig. Craig-e-Brae (Craig on the Hill) was named by my Great Uncle, James Craig, after he emigrated to America in 1906.

The cottage was cute but we found black mold in the one bedroom at the back of the house. There is a rug at the kitchen sink that hasn’t been washed for a long time. It was discussing. The listing did not mention that we would be responsible for paying for the electricity and fuel durning out stay.

Nice size house but not vey clean cobwebs and dust in each room. no Toilet rolls (we couldn't find any)Our granddaughter had wood lice dead on the floor under the bed. Shame really, but he is retiring so maybe not too bothered.

Property was spacious and a great base if you want to travel and see lots of sites. The preservation of older features is attractive however the cleanliness, mould issues and general maintenance of key items (eg shower, rugs, lampshades etc) and the garden all need attention.

This was a beautiful quaint cottage in a lovely quiet secluded area. The cottage was a tiny bit dusty with some cobwebs but of course that's to be expected on farm and country land so nothing that can be done about that!Everything was included and it was great! We really enjoyed going to see the cows and walking around the lane!

Living in this cottage we could feel what it was like living in a cottage with so much heritage . One built in the mid 1800’s. Thanks Robin.

The property itself is excellent, with a spacious kitchen, dining room and living room. The bedrooms are cosy. It is well located on the A26 with good access to the north coast, the Antrim glens and Belfast. The WiFi was slow (3Mbps, not the 25Mbps advertised) and charged at 10 per week. The heating oil and electricity were also charged based on use, which was not advertised on Vrbo- although the property is priced cheaply, so overall value remains decent even accounting for this unwelcome surprise. The kitchen was relatively sparsely kitted out, but clean. The linens and bathroom were also clean, but shelves and dressers were rather dusty and there were cobwebs.Robin had been in touch ahead of time regarding check in arrangements and provided contact details for any issues during our stay.Overall, this cottage is well located and lovely- but a moderate increase in the rent to incorporate WiFi and utilities would be preferable to various additional charges

Although the floors and bedding were clean there was layers of dust and grim on windowsills and shelves and cobwebs in the corners of windows. The double bedroom was dark even in the middle of the day because of the close overhanging tree branches and ivy The lounge was also very dark The kitchen was sparsely equipped with only 2mugs a mish mash of cutlery And 1 baking tray Robin was very helpful when we arrived as we were lost and he met us and guided us to the cottage.
