Lovely quaint accommodation. Location was beautiful with exceptional views over Lynmouth. Hosts were so friendly and accommodating.

This is an honest review of our experience which I hope will help people considering this property to rent. I don't normally leave bad reviews however I wouldn't want others to find themselves in the situation we were. The good: the host is lovely, the views are great and the location is good. The bad: The accommodation itself is terrible. The apartment is extremely cluttered with old furniture and there is a strong smell of damp and mustiness as soon as you enter the property. Even the bedding was damp to the touch.Unfortunately it was so bad that it affected all of us e.g. itchy eyes and throat. We tried airing the rooms but it was no good as it was ingrained. It was especially bad in the living room and bedrooms and we felt we had no option but to leave the morning after we arrived because it was not habitable. It is likely not helped by the fact the apartment is not kept heated. The heating is storage heaters which you have to pay for with coins. You get £5 free from the host but it doesn't last long and even having the heaters on did not help with the damp situation. I would not recommend anyone to stay here and especially if you have a young family or allergies it is not a healthy environment to stay in. I did speak to the host in the morning to let them know we were leaving and why however I don't think they realise just how bad it is. The property needs a lot of investment to get it anywhere near the standard to rent out and currently I don't think it is suitable to rent out to anyone. Fortunately, we were able to book alternative accommodation in Lynmouth at The Tors which was amazing and the complete opposite in terms of accommodation but still with the views and excellent hosts. I hope people reading this find our honest review helpful.

The location the views the Owner and her Brother the cleanliness (never experienced such spotless accommodation before) the furnishings were all superb... the only downside is the cold.
There is a coin meter you need to feed with £1 or £2 coins... very unsettling and reminiscent of my bedsit days in my 20s! Gillian the Owner was very generous and started us off with an extra stash of money but do be prepared... take a hot water bottle, slippers jumpers etc. Having a bath was a struggle as you need to heat the immersion heater and this takes hours... my friend gave up when the water ran cold after 2 hrs of heating it... we made use of the vanity units in the bedrooms by boiling kettles for a wash...
Might sound bad but honestly the property is charming, very unusual and in the Summer I will certainly return...if they'll have me!
The cost of heating now is so high which makes things very difficult for hoteliers etc so I do understand the issue... however you need to be prepared and then you'll have an amazing experience in a stunning 'one off' of an Apartment...

We were given a warm welcome by Gill and her lovely dog Fleur. The house is old and quirky and full of interesting things, we particularly enjoyed walking through the entrance rooms and up the spiral staircase. It's in an amazing location with sea views from living room and bedrooms. Only a short walk down to Lynmouth and up to Lynton (be prepared for steep paths!) Spacious apartment, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The beds were really comfy! It was a little chilly due to being an old house without double glazing and central heating. We were prepared for this and managed to stay warm. The electricity was on a coin meter but didn't cost too much.
Lynmouth and Lynton are charming and the surrounding woods/moors/countryside are stunning, lots of good walks in the area. Hope to stay at Clooneavin again!

Spectacular location on the hill overlooking Lynmouth. All the quirky antiques all over the rambling property .
The approach road took a bit of getting used to - it’s off the very steep Lynmouth hill.

Great location. Loved the cosy house with a lot of space for us to move around. There was a private path leading to the town centre and beach. So that was very convenient. Very friendly host who made sure everything was available for us.
Was tough to use the key provided as the lock was tricky to open.

I loved the surrounds. I liked the eclectic collection of bits of stuff in the house. it’s carefully curated but also a more is more approach. I loved the views from the window and the rooms were lovely.
I found it difficult as before booking I didn’t know it would need pound coins and 2 pound coins to operate the electric so thus I was very unprepared. the cost of the place was very budget friendly and even with the heating costs it was still much cheaper than any other place. I just wish that the property came with 20 quid in the electric (at my own expense?) or if it could be paid with card as I arrived quite late on a Saturday and the nearest bank is in Barnstaple so had to do some clever shopping in the local stores to gauge a few coins out of them as couldn’t get to Barnstaple before Tuesday. Also as I didn’t know how long it would last the first night we were all very very cold. After we’d warmed the property up and bought hot water bottles and thick jumpers and gloves, the place was lovely and I imagine in summer or spring there is no issue. The bedding was also sheets and eiderdown which was lovely but without the hot water bottle was always cold, a duvet added in the mix would have helped a lot. I love the property and would come back in a heart beat though I would know to be more prepared so I think it’s all about that first communication etc

Landlady Jill is great and so helpful
Bit of a walk to Lynton

Amazing location and views. A short walk up to Lynton via a footpath and a private path down to the beach at Lynmouth.
It did feel a bit like a museum- full of paintings, ornaments and old furniture. This felt fitting for Jubilee week as it felt like we had stepped into the past, but meant that the apartment lacked a few modern comforts.

Beautiful area and lovely place to stay. We actually stayed in flat 6 as 8 was too big for just the 2 of us

The property was part apartment, part stately home and part museum. Roomy, fabulous views and Gill was delightful. Plenty to do in the two villages and beyond- could have spent another week there without getting bored.
There is parking but space is a little tight and the path to Lynmouth is good for strengthening the calf muscles.
