Die Lage ist sehr gut. Die Unterkunft ist sauber.

Die Balkontür ist nicht verschließbar, das machte uns ein wirklich ungutes Gefühl. Wir haben dann bei den Kommentaren nachgelesen, dieser Zustand besteht seit über 3 Jahren und wurde nicht geändert. Ich habe dann den Vermieter angerufen, nur auf Anrufe wurde nie reagiert. Eine Whatsapp wurde mir geschrieben, mit der Zusicherung, dass die Gegend sicher ist. Wir waren eine Woche in der Unterkunft, da wäre sein 2tes Set Handtücher sehr gut gewesen. Der Kühlschrank in der Küche ist defekt, er kühlt zwar, aber an der Oberfläche ist viel Kondenzwasser (was eigentlich einen enormen Stromverbrauch bedingt).

First and foremost Marcos was a fantastic host. Easy to reach and quick to respond to any messages - we kept in communication over WhatsApp and I never waited longer than 15 min to hear back from him. The space itself was really nice for my wife and myself. The place was tidy and clean as expected and location was great to walk into the city - driving and looking for parking in the city would have been a nightmare. Funchal is also a pretty good home base city in Madeira to get to all around as a tourist.

The portions I did not like are not the hosts fault but did results in a subpar staying experience. During check-in process we faced a major issue of someone being parked in our spot, unfortunately this person never moved and the host provided another space in the garage for us to park in. The parking garage is tight, coming from the US the turn down into the garage is steep and garage quarters are tight - though this is mentioned in other reviews. On the second day the elevator broke/lost power, this remained true for the remainder of our trip. As we were leveraging the garage we had to walk up 5 flights of stairs every time we left and this was alright until the day of checkout where we had to lug suitcases down 5 flights of stairs with lights not even working in the hallways at 6:00 AM - yikes! The apartment is located at the bottom of Funchal so anytime you leave the city you have to trek all the way up and down some steep hills. Lastly as the apartment faces the road, it gets loud at night with motorcycles whipping around - if you are light sleeper be weary.

Good location and kitchen was well equipped and the apartment was clean when we arrived. Was homely and toiletries were provided. Extras like umbrellas and beach hats were in the apartment which was a nice touch, along with plenty of books if you wanted to read.

Security is an issue. Balcony doesn't lock and we were told it had been broken for 3 years! Were told someone would call to repair it, no one showed up. Whilst we didn't have an issue I felt very uncomfortable which I told the host immediately but no repair was carried out. It felt like they just placated us rather than genuinely addressing the problem. There were no fresh clean towels, change of bedding or cleaning the whole time we were there, which was disappointing 😕 as we were there for 6 days so fresh towels would have been appreciated. No broom either if you want to just sweep up. There was a washing machine but it wasn't warm enough for bedding/towels to dry if washed! The bathroom does need a bit of a refresh as there is some moulding on grouting and the window in the bathroom needs a good clean. The fridge also might need replacing as its showing signs of ageing and was wet on top all the time so you can't really put anything on it or it will be wet. There is no headboard in the bedroom either which was a bit strange, but we could manage with that.
